Also is there any designated parking lots in which we should park, if we have to park for 1 week

Metro does not have posted limits on parking, but the lots are meant for commuters, not long term parking! Metro lots are also known for auto theft. If you are flying out, you would be better off driving to the airport or using a service like the super shuttle!

A car siting there for a week will attract attention and may be towed!

I am pretty sure the WMATA-run lots don't allow you to park overnight. You can park at the garage in New Carollton overnight -- that is because it is intended for Amtrak users too. You could also park at National Airport for as long as you want and take the Metro from there. Park at the economy lot if you do, it's a LOT cheaper than leaving your car in the garage for a week!

Anytime a person parks in a lot that is unattended, a potential car thief, or a person planning to break into a car, knows he has x-amount of time -- more time -- to steal and dispose of the car before it is reported stolen. Also, if the person leaves the parking ticket on the dash or console of the car, it makes it much easier for the thief to get the car out of the lot without difficulty or any detection.
