You could ask if anyone knows a good place to get lunch after the gym. Or where they are from. If you are new to an area you could say that and ask if they know of any good "malls, grocery stores, clubs, bars, etc." people are usually super friendly once you get talking to them! Good luck!!

Remember in most cases people are at the gym to work out and not to socialize. I wouldnt do it on any equipment. If your gym offers classes then try one of those

Wait in one of the bathroom stalls. When a guy comes in and sits down in the stall next to you, slide your foot under the divider and tap it slowly. If he wants to be your friend, he'll respond.
