"Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left." I believe this to be one of the most misunderstood passages in the Bible. One will be taken (as in death) and the other left (for another day).

There is no Rapture, this is wishful thinking which did not exist until the 1830's. The Catholics and many Protestant religions do not believe in it. Christ will come as a thief in the night. This means at a time we do not expect, and as a person we do not expect. In other words, he may look like your next door neighbor, your Pastor or your doctor, but not like he did 2,000 years ago. This would not be coming "as a thief in the night", for we do not see a thief in the night and know not what he looks like.

Jesus does not return at the end of time, because there is much to happen after He returns. That passage is in Matthew which is a book about the Kingdom. The passage refers to Israel and the kingdom to come which is separate from the church which will be taken of of the world at least 7 years prior to that passage. You must not confuse the rapture and the 2nd coming if you want to keep it accurate.

Do not remain idle.
Jesus will return at some point, we're not sure when. It could be tonight, tomorrow, next month, next year, 100 years from now, but we should not remain idle.
We must continue to preach the Gospel at all times, but not force it down peoples throats that don't want to listen.

Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words!"
People will believe the Gospel message by your actions not by what you tell them. Live your life for Jesus and the Gospel will be open to all those around.

It is not our responsibility to know when Jesus will come back but to be prepared and to prepare others for his ultimate return.

You are pretty close the main thing that you can do to be prepared and study your Bible and do all that you can to continue to grow your relationship with Christ. Verses 40 and 41 Are speaking to the rapture where the saints will be taken and those who do not believe will stay. Pray to God to help you with your walk and read your Bible

This is answered in a parable later in the same chapter.

Who is a faithful and wise servant, whom when his lord made him ruler over his household, to give meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing (Mat 24:45-46).

Here is what we are to be doing. Giving to the household their meat in due season. Ministering unto the needs of others. Blessed is that servant, who is doing this when the Lord comes.

Believe with your whole heart NOW that Jesus the son of God died for your sins on the cross and rose 3 days later. Accept him into your heart and life and live for him.

Next tell others about him so they can be saved.

John 3
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."

3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.[a]"

4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

9"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.

10"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? 11I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[d] 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.[e]

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."[h
