Each state makes their own rules, but usually you have to change within 30 days of establishing residency in the new state. There are exceptions for military members, and for students who are just in the state to attend a college or university!

It depends on the regulations in the state where you live. The best thing to do is to contact the DMV in the state you are moving too or have already moved to. The only exception to this rule is if you are active duty military.

well, you'd better know what you're doing.
in california, if they find out you've been there for a year, and didn't change it, they charge you a use tax for the year. about three years ago i went there for a visit, and 2 weeks later i got a letter from the state of cal. (in my home state) wanting to know why i didn't register my vehicle when it had been there for some time.
