His PS2 is probably a modded one.

Hey man, I live in pakistan too. The dvd;s here are semi pirated. I saw this because they are not the copy but their quality and format is little different from the original ones. Ps2's here have coverter card fitted whinh enables them to play the disks. The games here are very cheap, only $1.5 if converted from ruppes 90. So if u want to play then search the place where you can get this card.

PS2's are region locked so you cannot play games from different regions. Your friend must have had his PS2 chipped. You will also have to mod your PS2 to get it to play games from a different region.

The easiest way is to get Swap Magic (more info at the link). To be honest though, it would be a hassle swapping disks everytime you want to play. I would consider getting a chip, or another PS2.

Video games, like DVDs, have a region code. They will only play on machines sold in the region for which they were sold.

Your American PS2, which has a North American region code, will not play Asian-market games for this reason.
