This situation forced a realization in you that you have stronger feelings for her than you thought, irrespective of the fact that you have a girlfriend. It's a superficial envy, and here's why: People tend to want what they can't have, and now that it seems she may be unavailable, you have a knee-jerk compulsion to intervene. Don't. Because if she was really THAT significant to you, you'd have acted before now.
Maybe you secretly miss the early days of a new romance, and the freshness all of that implies. If that's the case, go rekindle some sparks with your girlfriend and make your own magic. All of this stuff will pass given time....just don't do something stupid in the meantime. Good luck.

Hey, check it out: Danielle and I said basically the same things!

You could be feeling a little sad and jealous because she's starting a new relationship, and she now has something you don't have. You have a girlfriend and you guys are passed all that newest of a new beginning relationship. Maybe you should do something to rekindle the spark in your relationship so you won't be so into what's going on with your friend. Good luck and over time your frustration and sadness will lessen.

It could be because you feel uneasy and the need to protect your friend. This feeling should pass. You could feel that way because of fear she won't like you as much (as a friend) because of her going into another relationship.
