I personally disagree with any type of tipping. I tip out of social pressure, but, I feel the employer is then getting away with not paying and taking care of their employee. I'm a nurse and I give care for my patients lovingly and we are not tipped. If any profession should be tipped its healthcare! I don't believe a person should be tipped for their job especially these days unless it is an exceptional job. Except for waiters and waitresses because they really just work for tips. And if you want to give someone a gift for the holiday it should be a gift not a rule. But, out of the goodness of ones heart. And I do throw in my change at DD...oh, well!

Well, at the DD I go to on a daily basis, those kids are always pleasant to me. They know my order before I even finish speaking it into the mic... They do an awful lot of hustling behind the scenes, so I'm surprised at some of the comments here saying they don't deserve a tip...matter of fact, they're the first people I see in the mornings a lot of times, and by far the most pleasant. I don't mind tipping at all. These kids work hard...Cut them some slack....The ones who posted poor comments, are probably cheap skates anyway who never worked in the industry.

Yahoo actually posted one of these questions in their headlines which is why I am here. Talk about lacking quality material for the masses!

I agree with tipping at restraunts (actually spelled restaurants) if and only if the service is good. I have no problem tipping more for exceptional service or less (if none) when the quality is poor.

Tipping is not required for any kind of service provided whether it is an annual Christmas consideration or point of service (POS) event. Give if your heart desires or simply say "Thank You."

I only tip those who are considered waiters and waiteresses and make the 2.14 an hour or whatever that wage is and those that deliver food by car. I think that those in dunkin donuts and the other places make at least the minimum wage and do not need to be tipped but sometimes i will put a dollar or 2 in if the person getting my order is really nice.

Funny, I was just at Dunkin Donuts and I thought why would you tip them? They make minimum or better wages. I am a waitress and guess what I get tipped because my pay is only $3.00 an hour!!! Can you imagine if you had to live off that as a pay check....

Probably because they are paid the minimum wage, and many are kept at "part-time" status so they do not get benefits. So they try to make a little extra on the side - probably a whopping two or three dollars a day, if they are lucky. I have no problem dropping the spare change in there if the service was good.

I personally think that tipping anyone that isn't working at a bar, your pizza delivery person, taxi driver, or even a food service worker at a resteraunt, is pointless. And places that have a tip jar like Dunkin Donuts or places like it, is just like a homeless man begging for money in the streets.

It is kind of annoying, especially for pouring a cup of coffee that you do by yourself at 7-11. these people are paid at least minimum wage and probably have benefits, unlike a waiter/waitress.

If I order a breakfast sandwich that needs to be prepared, I do tip the change or something.

I totally agree with you. And it's not just Dunkin' Donuts. Starbuck's does the same thing (at least where I live).

I'm surprised McDonald's and other big chain fast food restaurants haven't started yet.

Maybe companies should just start paying people a decent wage!

Well, let's out it this way- Many people at D&D and other such service places just say "Keep the change", so whats the difference? I always place my change in the tip jars.
