Thankfully the scientific community has recently came out with the CE, or Current Era, and BCE Before Current Era to get rid of the BC/AD bunkum...

This Era also means Age, time is not calculated by the birth of some mythological figure, it's calculated by the SUN and the earths rotation, and the constellations that it's under. I think Christians believe that time is based upon Christ because Jesus/Horus is nothing more than a story about the SUN, and the zodiac. So tell me Christians why do you think you've based upon Christ.

Actually, BC and AD were an invention of the Church at a time when the Church was at its most powerful. It's not proof of Jesus Christ's existence, but it does testify to how popular Christianity was/is.

And please stop with the Horus crap. It's not true. Read some books on Egyptian mythology. PLEASE.

Well let's see...before CE or BCE it was BC (before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini) latin for The Year Of Our Lord - used in the Gregorian Calendar to refer to the current era. Both point to the same time period...the birth of Jesus Christ.

Had it simply been an effort to steer people away from Christian beliefs out entire calendar system would have changed and instead of the year 2007 of the 21st century we would have some huge inconceivable date on the calendars.

Like it or not, you still live in Anno Domini and it's still based on the year Jesus was born as the year 1.

dildo oreilly, clearly it was not the 'christians' that came up with bc or ad, its just a point in time, for reference, christ has nothing to do with time whatsoever. whether or not the man is a myth or legend or otherwise makes no difference, or if you believe or disbelieve, creation or evolution, NONE OF IT MATTERS, its like the difference between 12 am or saying 2400 hrs, or 12pm or noon, it is simply a point of reference to gauge what time it is, or where society was at a point in time, or when something was invented or discovered or destroyed or disappeared. before the 'supposed' time of christ, the world was not a small place, population was sparse in relation to the size of our world, around that time is when the world started to become smaller, more things started happening, population was multiplying exponentially and still is for that matter. who cares what terms you/we use for identifying periods of time, it matters not as long as everyone knows what the hell you're talking about, but one thing i can guarantee you is it wasn't a christian that came up with the bc/ad theorem, it was more than likely some GEEK scientist, who could only figure out how to be understood in his explanations, used christ as a reference, so that the simple minds of those followers could grab onto or possibly understand the idea(s) being verbalized.

anyway, i believe this is all going to the latest craze about being politically correct, i have never bought into it, don't buy into it now, and i never will, things are what they are, they shouldn't change because some folks feel offended, its a free country, i'm going to say it the way i learned it, till the day i die, and if you don't like it, find some other place on this much smaller planet, that agrees with your ideas and views wholeheartedly, and GO THERE!! PLEASE!!?

first of all, christ was not mythological. He was ,at the least, a historically documented figure. Read this paper i wrote just 2 weeks ago. it makes sense.

The First Big Cause

Rene Descartes said “I think, therefore I am.” This statement carries with it a philosophical reason for there being a divine power at work in the world. Descartes is saying that since he can contemplate and reason, I know that I exist. But has he always existed? No, he hasn’t. There had to be a cause since he is the effect of that cause. The same is true for Creation. There must be a cause for Creation since the effect of that cause, is in fact Creation itself.
Has anything in the universe always existed? The answer must be yes. The must be something because if there was a time when there was nothing at all, there would still be nothing. In Latin, this is demonstrated by the phrase “Ex nihilo, nihil fit,” which translated means “Out of Nothing, nothing comes.” As we can see, something exists. We are evidence of that existence, and nature is evidence of that existence as well. With that being said, this is proof something has always existed.
For something to exist, one of the following three criteria must be met: 1) it must self-exist- eternal and without cause, 2) it must be self-creating – which means it is self causing, 3) it must be created – caused by something else. One of these three criteria is impossible. The impossible one is the one that is self-creating. Something that is self-creating must be able to pre-exist itself in order to create itself. It “cannot be” and “be” at the same time. This is the Law of non-contradiction. The first choice would be logical however. There has to be something that is the first cause of everything without itself being caused by another effect, but itself was the first cause of all effects. Without this, first cause, there would be no Creation which is an effect of that very first cause.
It would not be logical to go back in time and say there was no first cause. There must be a first cause that itself is not caused.
Scientists claim that the Big Bang theory was the first big cause of the universe as we know it. The big bang was the event that supposedly happened billions of years ago when matter and energy collided to “create” the known world as we see it today. This is based on the first Law of Thermodynamics which states “matter/energy are neither created, nor destroyed. But what is not explained is how unintelligent matter and undirected energy crossed paths and “created” something that shows forth intelligence and ultimately design. Consider the following; a tornado is nothing more than undirected energy and unintelligent matter. A tornado has never produced anything, it always destroys. Some may argue that there is direction in a tornado. But directed action requires intelligence. Whose intelligence directed the tornado?
Ultimately, the person who believes in God does so because of logical necessity. There is no doubt that there was a first cause. Likewise, there is no doubt that the effects of the first cause show enormous indications of intelligence in the design.
This however, doesn’t show that any particular religious view of God is correct, but it is surely a reasonable and logical explanation for the necessity of an intelligent designer in the universe, a first big cause; the one which Christians call God.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but some Pope Gregory decided to change the calendar from the Julian calendar many centuries ago. And enforced and decreed that the entire world will adapt to it since that time on.

Common or Current Era [CE] and Before Common or Current Era [BCE] are simply new, "politically correct" phrases invented to circumvent Anno Domini [A.D.] and Before Christ [B.C.], which eventually became Christian Era [C.E.] and Before Christian Era [B.C.E.] before the newer "p.c." versions were invented.

Hope that helps.

Peace be with you.

In order for it to be Bible based-it must be Christ based. The word Christ is mentioned over 400 times in the New Testament.

'Time' is a human invention and it is the calendar that was adjusted to commemorate the revelation of the Spirit in Man .

Not 'time'.

The letters CE - also represent Christian Era and Before Christian Era, - never have I heard CE & BCE refer to 'current era' and 'before current era' - but then again, I have only been to 50 'countries' in the last 30 years, so maybe they are using this abbreviation somewhere I have not been to... ;-)

Sidereal time, is a measure, but people make the mistake of adding hours together...

Let me give you an example:

If it is 22 degrees on Monday
22 on Tuesday, and
22 on Wednesday
This does not give us 88 degrees on Thursday. Degrees are a measure of temperature, but we do not add them up, but treat of them separately.

Time is also a measure, just that.

We add seconds to seconds, minutes to minutes, hours to hours and in this way build a consciousness of time that has become a very powerful illusion.

Scripture describes "one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day" - and those who understood this two thousand years ago adjusted their calendar to draw attention to that.

There are probably over a dozen calendars in use all over the world, but the calendar you refer to as 'christian' is not based on 'Christ' or the teachings of the Spirit, but on commerce and the greedy egos of men.

Just one example August is named after Caesar Augustus who insisted they name a month after him and many of the months (as are the names of the days) are named after ancient Gods.

By the time you read this, it will be Monday... or Moon's Day... hardly a reference to 'Christianity.'

This new 'millennium' is the 'third day' - according to one reference in scripture.

I know you think Christians are really "dumb" but most of us do know where the calender originated from and recognize that time did not begin then. But right now the whole world basically follows the calender we use, so what do you expect us to do about it. We could switch to the Jewish Calender I suppose, but it is really convenient to stick with the same one that everyone else uses, and I am sure you use it too.

And what does A.D. mean? Annus Domini (Read Latin?)
