Medical doctors have cures, and they have treatments. They dont call treatments "cures" because they dont cure anything. Treatments are things like electroshock therapy to see if the person either settles down or just kindof fades to more vegetableness. Or precribing downers like ritalin to hyperactive kids to make them act more normally. Hypnotism to make someone forget that they have a problem with something. Or in the situation you mentioned, giving happy pills to mothers who have post partum depression until they get over it. Scientology doesnt have any rules about such things but they do tend to frown on masking symptoms instead of exploring reasons.
And they arent the only ones. Sometimes doctors and psyciatrists go at it on the same subject. Just because we have something to mask it doesnt mean we should stop looking for the cause.
Scientology doesnt fix everything. But in some cases I have seen it fix aches and headaches. Of course the AM would say thats because it was all in their head to being with.
On the other hand, I think thats what the scientologists thought also :)
Comment: Dispexic Atheist. I love combo of your image and name. Most excellent.

Scientology doesn't recognize that depression exists. It also doesn't recognize that autism, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or ANY neurological disorder / chemical imbalances exist.
It convinces adherents that these are all caused by "engrams" (past negative experiences stored in our unconscious mind) and that to clear oneself of engrams, one must participate in the Scientology procedure called "auditing" as well as their "Communication Courses" (which are "training routines" or, rather, brainwashing techniques). This all costs grossly prohibitive amounts of money, of course, and it's in addition to all of the tests one must pay to take and all the reading materials one must purchase for oneself.
Scientology has taken a very hostile stance towards psychiatry & psychiatric drugs irrespective of the fact that some people require medication to remain adequately functional during everyday life. The “church” has been known to withhold prescription pharmaceuticals from members (often with harmful & deadly results). The “Church” blames psychiatry for the Holocaust, as well as school shootings & even September 11th. It’s been suggested that Hubbard’s vehement opposition was born of the psychiatric community’s rejection of his “tech” as a valid treatment method, but it’s also possible that Hubbard chose psychiatry as a scapegoat. Organizations like Scientology are notorious for villainizing a specific out-group because their “stand against the enemy” fosters cohesion within said organization, & psychiatry was an effective rallying point considering many people already distrust & oppose the mental health profession.

Tom Cruise came out against Brooke Shields when she spoke publicly about her post partum depression.
He said she was wrong to take anti-depressants - that she is poisoning her body.
He also went nuts talking with Matt Lowry about ADHD, depression and all sorts of stuff.

You are possessed by alien spirits and the only way you can get rid of it is to give money to the scientologists.
