Get a book on CD, or download one.
Bring a dead tree version, too (a book, I mean). A couple of magazines wouldn't hurt.
Bring a book of sudoku or crossword puzzles, and a pen, of course.
A few granola bars or Cliff bars would help also.
Earplugs would be good if you want to take a nap or get a screaming baby near you.

An Ipod or other music player, even if you're not listening to it, it keeps people from presuming that you'd like to chat about inane topics.
I like to stay up the night before and have a few drinks before the flight, which helps me sleep as well as reducing jet lag.
Take magazines, take text books, (there's a good way to put yourself to sleep,) take your lap top and some computer games.
Good Luck,
DGI
