as said before there are a lot of variables. There is a reson it is called a service wide exam also. You will be competing with everyone in the navy in that job at that level to gain rank. Your supervisors will play a big part in it but even more then that you will have to show motivation and dedication and learn all the material even material that may seem to not be related.

It really depends on the job, as a corpsman i see an average advance rate but that can change at anytime. All depends on how well you supervisors think you work and how you score on the rating exam, also on how long you have been doing that job.
Talk to a recruiter, he or she should point you in the right direction.

if you are female, you will NOT be getting HM any time soon. HM is manned at strength or overmanned, depending on paygrade, so advancement is slow.
