Lol! Congrats! My son turned one last Friday but we didn't have a party - we figured he was too young. My mum and brother came over for the day and he had a cake and candle, however!!
I would have simple finger foods that the babies can eat - such as little squares of bread and butter or cream cheese, sliced banana and peeled apple, rusks, Cow & Gate biscuits or Heinz Biscotti for babies, etc. One year olds are at different stages food-wise and so you have to keep it simple. Careful of anything that could cause choking - slice grapes in half.
If there are going to be older children there then you can pretty much use your imagination. Play it safe with sandwiches, fruit etc or be more adventurous with little individual pizza slices (buy a french stick, cut into slices and top with cheese and roasted veggies), fruit salad, corn chips and home made dips. Both babies and older children love dips!
For a cake stick to a plain sponge cake. My son only had half a slice of his birthday cake and I cut the icing and cream filling off! I felt a bit mean doing it but I really didn't want him to be sick after eating something too rich and sweet for him - he's still only on plain foods and baby foods as yet.
Have fun!!!

For the kids menu, cheap and easy fingerfood is the ultimate way to go. Try a mixture of chicken nuggets, cut vegetables, cut grilled cheese sandwiches, or small slices of pizza. Chips, goldfish crackers, and sliced apples are always excellent sides. Whatever you do decide try to keep the food simple, it shouldn't be the main event or problem at your party. Have Fun !
And Happy Birthday to your baby boy.

Plenty of kiddy eats, like soft food which has no nuts in. Ask other parents what their kids like so they will all have something they like. Give the adults some proper food too so that they come back for the second birthday party too. Take loads of pictures as it will be a day to remember for the rest of your life. Enjoy.

My advice is to really keep it simple. I would guess most of the children will be real young, then you have their parents and your relatives. Stay within your budget with the adults, you could have a bit of the holiday theme too. I would talk to the parents of the children that are coming and try to find out what the kids like. You should be able to come up with enough variety to satisfy everyone. Good Luck!

What will be the age range of the kids?
For my son's first birthday, we had a normal day, and then had friends and family come over around noon for hamburgers and hot dogs and mac and cheese. Cheap, easy, simple. No one's going to care what you're eating, they're there to celebrate!

He's never going to even remember having a first birthday.
You need to ask what YOU want to eat, because the kids are going to eat whatever shaped chicken nuggets that you put on their plates.
Make sure there's a nice cake with lots of icing to get all over their cute lil' faces, and plenty of ice cream.

Since im 12 (a kid) i can tell you everything kids like to eat! chickhen fingers are always a hit with kids. not too spicy though, kids like some seasonings but not spice. next, lobster lol just kidding. no, next kids love pizza! most kids love extra cheese, but some do like toppings. so order a pizza with half cheese and half pepporoni. don't go to fancy or anything. kids will be fine if you even just serve them mac and cheese! (don't do that though). ooo and 1 more thing, kids love curly fries! hope this helps! o and congrats on the baby!

sausages
oven chips (fries - not crisps)
little sandwiches with the crusts off (egg mayo, marmite, jam - hey it's a party!)
cartons of juice with straws for those that can cope/ don't bring a mug
apple juice
smarty buns and crispie cakes
Is what mine had for their parties - there was one odd bod that was still on jars of puree at 15 mo, but his mother insisted on bringing his own (clearly didn't trust me) and he howled the place down because she wouldn't let him have any cake. Takes all sorts - the rest of 'em were fine - we nearly played musical bumps too, then it turned into musical babies.
Oh, don't forget tea and chocolate cake for the mums!.
