Okay, so they're showing Harry Potter again on TV and this time I noticed there are commercials for a 30-song gospel collection…

So, I suppose a “flip side” question of my previous one (for Christian Harry Potter fans) is in order now.

Are you somehow offended on some level that you and/or your children are exposed to Christian marketing/recruitment in this manner when watching Harry Potter?

A more important question, particularly for ex-Christians, do you feel (HOWEVER SLIGHT) that you or your children become momentarily swayed towards Christianity (along with a doubt about your atheist convictions) when the commercial comes on?

Not at all..I used to be a Christian and if someone is so lost that they are able to be manipulated to join a religion just because of a commercial then that person has some problems

Why would anyone watch a film on TV interrupted by commercials when you can get the thing on DVD and watch it without advertisements? I watch very little commercial TV as the adverts annoy me. TV advertising tends to make me not buy what is being advertised - as a punishment for interrupting my program. Fortunately in Australia we still have some free-to-air TV without commercials. I understand that is not the case in the USA.

It's just. A book. Goddamn. JK said herself that, at its simplest, Harry Potter is a Christian allegory (good over evil, love conquers bad, there is life after death, etc.), and I'm fine with that. If I ever have children, I'm going to let them find their own path and try not to interfere. Why do people read into things so much? No pun intended.

If my children can be swayed to believe in anything by a 30 second commercial, I've raised them horribly, horribly wrong. I do not find religious advertisements to be a threat.

Nope. I'm just annoyed in that the commercial is boring and for something I don't want. But that's true with, say, an ad for a Toyota or whatever.

I don't have any kids, so I couldn't say for sure, but I can't imagine worrying about it. Now, if they offered free candy or toys with every album sold, I might worry a little.

No, it's all fantasy---the movie and the commercials. And entertaining in both cases.
