I suffer from a mild back condition, which causes pain. I bring ibroprofen to high school with me, but I get no relief. It works for my sister. Am I immune to ibroprofen (Nurofen)?

Ibuprofen is a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory agent. It's primary effect in controlling pain is by decreasing inflammatory response by controlling prostiglandin release. If these are not the source of the majority of your pain, then the amount of effect you will notice from the medication is less than a person who has a condition where these are the effects needed for analgesia. If over-the-counter pain medications such as paracetamol and ibuprofen are not controlling your pain, you should have your back evaluated by your GP. It is doubtful that you are immune to ibuprofen. It is more likely that the medication is not the appropriate medication for your condition or your perception of pain is greater than your sister's.

Ibuprofen is an antiinflamitory NSAID medication it takes some time to work (some times it never works) depending on whats wrong and the degree of pain you have it may be that the pain is caused by nerve troubles, in that case Ibuprofen is useless .Your not immune to it it just works better on some types of pain better than others. Try Tylenol then if that doesn't work you need to have your doctor try you on mild prescription medications.
Don't fall for the old wife's tale that prescription drugs are addictive. It is rare that IF taken RIGHT that they are addictive..
Good luck

It could be that you have been taking it long enough that it is not as effective as it used to be. Or you could be taking less than is effective for your particular problem. Ask your doctor what he would recommend before making any changes yourself.
