Enlightened, Yes!
Recluse, Yes!
Misunderstood, Yes!
Are there people alive like that today, Yes!
He knew more than he spoke of, Yes!
What can we say of this man that has passed on!!
Brilliant!
Could he see into the future, only God knows the answer to that question!
Who are we speaking of?
A small man in stature!
A man of great faith, who's pursuits were to aid mankind!
Some may remember his name, others may not, but this small insignificant Sufi will....He was none other than Albert Einstein!
I heard that song before it was released to the public.
"Peace be always with you."

The only true answer would have to come from the author of the words.
My guess is that the author was inspired by one or more people. Sometimes we find that people whom the world defines as "crazy" simply have gifts we do not understand.
The world, in general, was not ready to hear Jesus when he walked on the Earth. There were some who heard and understood, and this left a great impact on the the future.
Look, even today some 2,000 plus years later, we are still talking about the events that happened back then, while to most high-school students today, the Vietnam war is a greyish event in history, and World Wars I and II are hard to imagine, let alone the Civil War or the Revolutionary War! All of these were major events in their time.
Perhaps the inspiration for the song was indeed heard and understood by some. God has ways to make sure that the right people get His messages at the right times.

My best guess is the song is about a persona there are no clues to suggest a specific identity. They are few and far between but there have definitely been people like this in the past. There are some a live today, I hope and if we keep our hearts and minds open enough we might get a chance to be in their presence. What he knew, it is said in the song he had visions of the master plan, a little closer to God than your average Joe. The knowledge is available to all of us its just a matter of discovery, I think it is also important to note that there are probably more Charlton's than people with true knowing. If he couldn't tell you what it is he knows maybe it something that has to be experienced or maybe you aren't ready to hear the word. Great lyrics though, thanks.

Is this song about an actual person or is it more of an archetypal persona?
I'd say this is more of an Archetype
Has anybody who ever lived match that description?
Probably, but like alot of people who are truly gifted, he/she wouldn't be well known, at least, not in the way 'famous' psychics/spiritualists are.
Are there people like that alive today?
I really believe there are, but they'd also likely keep most of it to themselves (or thier close friends/family) We live in a skeptical society, and if you aren't seeking fame or fortune, what would be the motivation to put up with the ridicule and doubt?
And what do you think it is that he knew?
I don't know.....maybe something about life after death, the meaning of life?
Could anybody really claim to know some of the things implied?
Sure, but like anything else spiritual, it's almost impossible to prove.
And why couldn't he tell them what he knew?
Perhaps he didn't think they'd believe him, or alternately, didn't think they'd be able to understand. Perhaps, knowing he had a glipse of the 'unknown', he didn't think it was his place to tell them?

Both
Yes
Yes
The Truth
Yes
May reasons. You actually can not just hand someone the bottom line, they will not accept it, believe it, or understand it if they are not ready for it. This is why most teachers will lead a student to come to their own understanding at the time. The truth is something that must be experienced. There is also the small detail that if you succeed in showing someone what they hold dear in their beliefs is not true, but they are are unable to grasp & accept what you offer, you have destroyed their foundation & left them adrift. In trying to help you have actually harmed them. For this one reason alone, these souls speak little. Yet, if they do share with you, rest assured they know you are already near, & need but a liitle guidance to see yourself.
Blessings.

Yes and maybe he's a she this time and the only reason she can't tell the the truth is because they don't want to hear it. It DOES hurt, you know! I am leaving clues all over this world. Some will 'get it' and others will not but it will be their choice to believe it or not. I DO know what everyone thinks they can believe and I know the truth. It's what I teach the children.

Reading it, it felt like me. I relate. Some of us are like that. Me? It comes out and is written, and imaged in art, and shared with some (and many). It's not easy being an enigma to everyone you meet. It is lonely. Yet living it is being a being directly in touch with a world of unquantifiable, awesome, practically unutterable beauty...and being in touch with the most heart rendingly loving, completely private experiences, and blessedly, gives my life immeasurable meaning and purpose. These words are excruciatingly private. I don' talk about it. I feel vulnerable and a bit afraid of revealing that my life is that. No one ever could fully get it......unless it is them....and we are shy about that. All our innocence......openness....can be so trampled by the big feet. We feel and know too much yet wouldn't have any other way. We love it. It is all. I do not seek personal attention. I prefer to be invisible. Sometimes the world is overwhelmingly harsh for me....but I am here to share love....and I do. It is extremely brave of me to write this here. I am terrified of saying it out loud to people who do not know me....like this. I may delete it. I only told you because you had the awareness to ask.
Love and big thank you's to Sunman and midnite rainbow, for honest communications with me since posting this. My outing will remain after all!
