I'm sure that it can cause a problem for some. Those not firmly grounded in reality and in Jesus could be swayed by such nonsense. Truthfully? I read all seven of them and, for me, they were just pleasant story books -- nothing sinister, or demonic about them. But, that was my reason for reading them in the first place -- just like fairy tales. I wasn't looking to imagine myself able to perform magic, etc. I do agree that it is best not to fill one's mind with such fluff. We are clearly instructed as follows:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Philippians 4:8)

As you can tell, the LORD ain't done working on me, yet. ;-)

hi, i'm sixteen and are available from a Christian relatives. My 3 brother and that i've got study each and every of the Harry Potter books and all love them, passionately. My mum and dad do not oppose us interpreting them in any respect, they believe they're nicely written and contemporary good morals. whilst, I first began interpreting them, however, the only area my mum became into truly unhappy with became into 'Divination' - she informed me that divining went against 'trusting God' and not attempting to play God or something alongside those traces - you recognize what I mean, i'm confident. although, well-known jointly as witchcraft is against Christianity, you may understand that see you later because it remains as a fantastical element (and that i realize it may grow to be actual yet in an exceptionally distinctive thank you to how Hogwartians use it) it rather is a outstanding element to study. that's makes thoughts, nicely, magical (bleagh cliche-ness). And, once you think of approximately it, below the magic - which truly is barely a small concept of it - the tale is a few boy, by capacity of the clever and his unswerving acquaintances, defeating the epitome of evil. There are even some christian underlyings in it. So surely, i don't understand what the fuss is approximately. Hooray for J ok Rowling - who, i don't think of concept she'd make to any extent further of a comotion than the different fable author whilst she became into writing it. And, come, please, enable's provide up the e book burnings - think of of the wood! :D

Clearly they do *not* "glorify our Lord." Neither does nearly every single form of media available to us today. Add to this the Simpsons, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and *almost* every other fantasy book, movie or story.

Is Harry Potter witchcraft, as some answers claim? Absolutely not. It is a wholly and obviously *fictional* account of *fictional* witchcraft that simply does not exist in the real world. Harry Potter is no more witchcraft than Fred Flintstone is a prehistoric person. (He's not - he's just a cartoon character that never actually existed.) Indeed, considering the amount of lying that goes on in "The Flintstones," I can say with a great deal of confidence that Harry Potter is much more appropriate for Christians than is The Flintstones, and at *least* as worthy as the classic Disney animated films.

If you are interested in a fantasy series that "glorifies God", try the Camber of Culdi series by Katherine Kurtz. Christianity *pervades* the lives of (most) of the characters in this series, and white "magic" is *often* dependent upon prayer. I find it excellent - though more adult than HP (nothing explicit).

Witchcraft and sorcery are clearly identified as sins in the Bible. I do not believe our Lord would read a book filled with it for entertainment. Neither should we fill our minds. The idea that it is "good" magic and that the story has a "moral" ending are nothing but deceptions. They distract us from the fact that the book is not only about witchcraft, but indeed a school of it for children! The end effect, if nothing else, is that we are all a little more accepting of such things...eager for the next "Harry Potter"...we are a little more numb to the repulsion of witchcraft as a sin...especially if the message is "good." The Bible, however, makes no such distinction.

I suggest you replace Harry Potter with Pilgrim's Progress.

Only if you have a problem with reality and fantasy. If you are unable to tell the difference, then don't read them. You might think there is really a hogwarts school, and run into walls at train stations. A real follower of the teachings of Christ, knows of a magician's tricks. (As told in the story of Moses).
A true Christian would also know that a magician's tricks have no power against a child of God .
It can't hurt you to read the fantasy stories, but maybe they don't think you can handle it yet. As long as you're not trying to conjure up spells against people, you should be fine. If you are reading them in the hopes of becoming one, then that's a different story.

It's not the person reading the story that is performing witchcraft, it's the characters in the story. They would go to hell, (if they were real), not you.

We read about people getting killed or raped or beaten almost daily in a newspaper or on the news. Do we now stop reading the paper? Do we now stop watching the news?
Are we being demonic because we read or see demonic things? Of course not. WE didn't do any of it. The ones that commit the crimes will be punished. Reading is NOT a crime.
It's a crime when people don't want you to read.

If you cannot seperate fact and fiction, or it creeps into your mind and you let it, or you start questioning your faith after watching/reading them, then you should stay as far away from them as you can.
If you are strong in your faith, and this TYPE of media, doesn't effect you strongly, then you are free to read them, as long as you don't become obsessed, or forget your God or spend less time doing God centered things.

It depends on how strong your faith is, and how this certain type of media effects you.

Like some people cannot watch horror movies because they will have nightmares, or some people are very touched by drama's.
Media effects different people different ways.

Sorry that I'm not a Christian, but I feel that it is entirely OKAY to read Harry Potter books. They show the ancient thought between the battle of Good VS Evil....along with more critical thinking skills which wouldn't hurt ANYONE to do.

They don't glorify God and it is witchcraft
the Bible states that witchcraft is wrong

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
[24] And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
[25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

DO YOU READ THE BIBLE ?

there is nothing wrong with reading Potter books...its just fiction , and NO it dont glorify God any....
But the Bible says to do all things giving Thanks........
God knows we read , watch TV and such..He see's it all at every moment.....He knows your heart.....and He also knows if your sincere or not....... WE must follow HIM into all TRUTHS , and he also knows we are human , and we do ALL sorts of things....that are not SIN....we work . play , talk , swim , eat , read , watch , laugh.....its part of Life...He said to tarry till he came....Just we are to put HIM FIRST in ALL things...and not let nothing come between HIM and us.......and if it does then quit..if it doesnt no harm...again He knows you...and you know what your doing or not doing....READ HIS WORD..the Bible...and its pretty self explanitory on what one should or shouldnt do !!

And some people worship going to a building called church....and where is the glory in that ? God doesnt dwell in a building made with mans hands !!

But YE are the temple of the Holy Ghost
and the House of God

and He who defiles the temple
God will destroy !!

I you have a strong faith in your god and your religion no book should be able to shake or weaken it. Plus, harry potter has nothing to do with religion. It is simply a fun fantasy series. You don't need to read religion into everything you see. Just enjoy them for what they are and remember that it has nothing to do with your faith. If your religion tells you that witchcraft is bad fine. Don't practice witchcraft. But reading about it isn't hurting anything.
