Does a tailor expect a tip?

I am getting ready to have some dresses altered. Does anyone know if it is proper etiquette to tip the tailor?

EVERYONE expects a tip nowadays!!! So it is NEVER improper to tip! But 10-20% of the cost is the golden rule, WHOMEVER you are tipping.

i always did. I used to get suits tailored and always used the same one. I had a couple of freebies too after beccoming a regular. I used to see this Turkish older man here in NYC. He'd always offer me tea as I waited to be fitted. Tipping goes a long way.

Everyone expects a tip. Just don't give a tip.
If you open a beginning, the tailor would expect a tip each time. That is a crazy society. tips tips tips.
Later on cops demand tips, doctors demand tips, firefighter demand tips....................... hard to imagine. If you feel guilty that don't pay tips, just tell yourself that you pay tailor to do things. The tailor gets paid. no extra. In other nations, no tips. Only us. so many tips. NO tip!!!!:)

The rule of thumb is there is no hard and soft rule for each person. I always try to give a little something to a person that really does an excellent job by today's standards. Believe me, that is not exceptional either. If you feel that the work was just average and he took his good old and you may never use him again, then thank him and be on your way.

I wouldn't tip a tailor. Tipping has gotten way out of hand I think. if you don't know if you should tip then generally this is not done.

tipping is getting out of control! i work in a hospital, so does that mean i should get a tip when i take someone to the toilet? or bring in there tray? or wipe there a@@? or wipe there blood up? get a grip you greaty people. accept the job you have with the pay.
