Your insurance liability is responsible for fixing the other persons vehicle. hence the term Liability. What sucks is not the insurance company is going to jack the rate on dad. I would work a little overtime, dad is going to be upset when he sees the 25% increase in premiums

Based on what I am reading, you have insurance but the NAMED INSURED policy holder is dad.

As long as you are a listed DRIVER on the policy, then it is understood you have coverage as declared on your policy for that particular vehicle you were driving at the time of the accident.

The coverage is known as COLLISION (sometimes abbreviated COLL) which pays for damage to your car which is subject to your cash out of pocket deductible before insurance begins paying. The other coverage is PROPERTY DAMAGE (PD), which is damage you cause to other people's property. Bodily Injury (BI) is injury to others due to your fault.

So as long as you have COLL and PD then both of your vehicles can be fixed with minimum out of pocket vs. full costs

Always get you vehicle fixed because if you are in another accident, then insurance will have a hard time telling what is old dent damage vs. new damage which can be very hard to assign a number for cost of damage and may result in under payment adjustment which would not be fair to you.

Insurance rates may not always necessarily go up due to one accident depending how long it has been since the policy claimed for an accident. Many insurance companies have features known as "accident forgiveness" as you have heard on Allstate commercials but they apply to most companies for if you have gone 3, 5, or more years without a claim, then it will treat this one as if it "didn't happen", but then you shouldn't claim, have an accident, or anything of that nature for some time or the next one would cause a large increase in premium rates.

Most likley the police officer did not question because he saw on his DMV results the vehicle was insured. So if you are NOT a named driver on the policy but the vehicle is on the policy, it will extend coverage to the vehicle even if you have no insurance because you were considered a "guest driver" at the time. As always, contact your policy's insurance agent for guidance pertaining to your State's insurance law as they vary from state to state. The job of an insurance agent is to assist you in the interpretation of your policy and the coverages you have for you.

Usually the NAMED INSURED (Dad) will have to place the claim as most insurance companies want the policy holder to be aware of what is being claimed on the policy. If the cost repair is affordable, then many times it is good NOT to claim and pay the full costs of repairs

I hope this helps, good luck and much prayers!

Call your insurance company. You will need to speak to the adjuster handling the claim. Your company may need to get a recorded statement from you about what happened and will probably want to get photos of your truck as well.

The insurance adjuster will need to speak with you to confirm what happened before they are able to pay under the policy for the other person's damage. Therefore, don't make the adjuster chase you down.

Basically you were driving uninsured then. You could have turned your Dad into a slave for the rest of his life. What were you thinking? What if you killed somebody?

Dad better have enough insurance to cover everything.

Now he has to lie for you, too.
