Lets just say someone has no car insurance. Their drunk friends are at a party, and call for a ride. One says to take her car and she has insurance. So you pick them all up take them all home safely and when parking in your apartment complex you hit one of those poles, and mess the car up pretty badly. What happens, if your friend's parents dont want report it to the insurance. Who has to pay?!

none of the other drunk girls will help you pay and you dont have very much money at all.

She gave you full permission? Then it's her baby I'm afraid. If the parents don't want to report it, they can fix it themselves and if it's their car they can take it out of their daughter's hide later.
If it's her car, then it's not up to her parents.

The insurance goes with the car, not the driver.
If you hit a pole, hard enough to "mess up the car
pretty badly", you screwed up big-time.
How drunk were you?
Given the circumstances, they ought to file a claim,
but you're on the hook.

It was not your car to insure your friend will have to call her insurance comp. if she doesn't want to then she will have to pay to fix car. But I think the law is really if you are driving you are taking full responsiblity of car, so next time tell them to walk.
