what do you think are the disadvantages of the U.S army

You lose some of the freedoms that you may have become accustomed to in the civilian world, like speaking your mind, going and coming as you wish, and associating with whomever you want. Likewise, you may be stuck with someone in your Chain of Command who is an absolute idiot and there isn't anything you can do about it. You can't change units, you can't change jobs, you just have to wait them out.
For me, the upsides definitely outweighed the disadvantages. I got to do MANY things in the army that I could never have done in the civilian world.

Well, the biggest disadvantage would be the risk of being killed or maimed in war. Of course you could be killed or maimed just driving your car down the street too.
Some things that would be disadvantages to one person may be an advantage to someone else. A lot of it depends upon your personality and what you are looking to get from the Army.

There are NO disadvantages of the US Army. You have more job opportunities and better chances at promotions, better discipline, good pay and allowances. Go to http://www.goarmy.com This will help dispel any rumors that you may hear.

In boot camp you are allowed to eat pizza and drink cokes. You only go out to 300 m on the rifle range and US Marines think that you are a bag of ***.

Keep in mind, all of the previous answers (the good and the bad parts) can all be applied to every other branch of the US military.

It is not a job where you quit if you don't like it.
It takes a firm commitment. Unless you are willing to commit yourself to doing what is required of you, please do not waste the Army's time or yours.
If you are willing to make the commitment and your word is worth something, them, a golden opportunity lies ahead.
