How can you not really care for someone who is a friend? You are not much of a friend if you would keep your friend's money. Anyways, whether the person is a friend or just someone you know, you should give the money back. It wasn't yours to begin with and you are not out anything by giving it back. Hanging onto it will just bring you bad karma.

Well if they left a million dollars laying around for someone else to find, they didn't really care much about it in the first place. However, I am a firm believer in returning lost items. You do not keep what is not yours. So I would give it back with a lecture on putting it in the bank. :o)

I would. I think keeping it would come back to haunt you. I don't want to be a hypocrite, I can't stand all the thieves in the government and society in general, so what would it say about me if I did the same thing given the chance? That is what is wrong with this world - hypocrisy is rampant.

Give it back then make up your mind if the person is a friend or someone you don't really care for!

Friend - don't care for. Oxymoron?

If I found a large sum of money I'd try and return it to the owner, whoever they are, whether I know them or not.

i wouldnt keep the cash and feel guilty forever .
i would give the cash to the owner , and give him advice about how to be careful with his belongings.
in my country, a person who finds precious things or cash is entitled to 20% of the value of what he found.
if your friend offers to give you a reward, it's up to you whether to take it or leave it.

Yes. I would not be able to live with myself knowing that I essentially stole someones money. Even if they don't deserve it, its not your money its theirs. If you have kids or anyone who looks up to you think of the terrible message you would be sending to them.
