Okay, so not all Christians get together on Saturdays and burn Harry Potter. It is only wackos who think that Harry Potter deserves firey death. However, I think I may have stumbled upon a "nice" sort of wacko, while searching for a comprehensive list of the effects of a Pokemon's Nature.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but most Christians I know enjoy Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and perhaps Pokemon-- QUIETLY. These people don't feel the need to find scripture in every single piece of media that they get their hands on.
Not so with this site, which seems convinced that Jesus is in everything from Anne Rice vampire books to The Princess Diaries.
Do you know anyone like this? Christians, do you feel that there is Scripture in everything?
May Pelor shine upon your answers. May Balthazar grant you strength to resist hatred. May Athena bless your answers with wisdom.

No. Not every Christian believes there is scripture in everything. That sounds a bit obsessive to me, like someone desperately trying to prove the existence of a ghost--every creaking floorboard and slamming door is a wayward spirit. There are some strong parallels that can be drawn in literature--Lord of the Rings, for example, or The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis--but on other things more ambigulous, (Like the Princess Diaries...?), I think it's largely subjective to personal interpretation. If you want to see something, won't you see it?
But hey. I'm a Christian. I'm ok with not seeing God EVERYWHERE. And burning Harry Potter would be sacriligious. People need to learn to appreciate pieces of literature for their inherent quality to be works of art, not smoke them if they spook you.

I love what you said here:

THANK YOU for pointing this out.
Most of us are normal. We just love God and accept Jesus. We don't go out and preach to everyone we meet. Most of us NEVER preach. We live and let live.
I love Harry Potter. I loved Lord Of The Rings. I went to see Constantine. I loved Chronicles of Narnia. I liked Da VInci Code, although it was a little too long for my tastes. I am not all up in arms over The Golden Compass.
We accept others' beliefs and respect them.
I do not feel like there is scripture in everything.

I believe that this life is a classroom, and every experience we have contains a lesson. That includes things as trivial as the books we read or the video games we play. That said, I'm not so single-minded that I go out consciously LOOKING for these lessons, as those guys do. Still, it's better than burning the books and condemning them as the Devil's work, no?

The World is so secular theese days. I watch movies, and I love all kinds of Music. Harry Potter for me was just the Gayest movie ever, and Lord of the rings rocked! I wont deny my precious...... As for Pokeman who cares?
I think that you can find scripture in alot of things. But I am not anti- secular. Perhaps it lies on what the persons beliefs are.

I am a Christian. I love Tolkien, all his works..I like Harry Potter. I wouldn't ban The Golden Compass. Many great horror writers are believers. Not all Christians are fundamentalists. There is a wide scope of beliefs and many denominations...

i think of labeling all Christians a extraordinary lot is a splash ordinary. Granted, i think of the strikes of this church or team of folk is a splash off base and particular not a effective action, yet this isn't something from which to label each Christian.

i have experience with 2 types of christians. most of my family is the type who read and love harry potter and various other types of literature without having to bring their religion into it. a small minority of my family is the type who say that if it isn't scriptural it is evil, thus vampires, harry potter, and anything else the preacher tells them, is not to be read. i have never met anyone like the guy on the site. he is a weirdo to be sure, but it seems like he's not a bad weirdo.

Don't judge all based on the actions of a few. This is why rednecks beat Muslims up, they see 9/11 as done by Muslims then go nuts and think that's what all Muslims do when it's really just a few nutters.
