It could get your out of a late fee if they can see you don't usually pay late. It is all about the customer service agent you get. If it's not more then 30+ days late and you can't get out of the fee, pay it and don't make the same mistake again. If it is over 30 days late it will affect your credit score.

If I'm going to be late on a payment, I usually call them ahead of time and let them know. I don't make it a habit of being late so I think that's why they don't give me a hard time.

It can do if you forewarn them. if you don't then no not really. You can apologise all you like but a company ios a company and will follow the procedures.
