Vehicle has been running well. I keep it well maintained. It suddenly started making a loud siren (ambulance) sound. After a short time it stopped. A few minutes later it started again, quietly, but gets louder with higher RPMs. Can anyone advise? Thanks!

Is it four wheel drive? I own a 1998 4x4 Expedition that had the same problem. The seal in the transfer case that holds the drive shaft needs to be oiled(towards the rear end). I sprayed WD-40 on it to see if that helped. It stopped the noise completely but I have to spray every now and then to keep it quiet. You should really give that a try before you start replacing things. Good luck!

Sounds as though you have a bearing going out somewhere. Since it gets louder with higher RPMs it must be something on or in the engine. Open the hood and see if you can isolate it to a component. Water pump, AC Compressor, Alternator, Power Steering Pump, or several thing are a possibility.

check power steering fluid might be low, also could be loose belts, or could be the alternator, ac or power steering unit's bearings going bad
