Reconciliation is a sacrament meant to be a healing encounter between God and the penitent, and there is no need to worry about exactly what to say or do.
This is one way how to go to Confession
+ Get yourself ready by making your examination of conscience.
You enter the confessional. You can choose to talk to the priest face to face or anonymously behind a screen.
+ After the priest greets you with the Sign of the Cross make the Sign of the Cross and say: “Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been (say how long) since my last confession. These are my sins…”
+ Tell your sins simply and honestly to the priest. Don’t be embarrassed.
+ When you are done listing your sins please say: “…I am sorry for these sins and all the sins I can’t remember.”
+ Listen to the advice the priest gives you and accept the penance from him. Then make an Act of Contrition for your sins:
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
And failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Amen.
+ The priest will then conclude with the words: “Your sins are truly forgiven, Go in Peace”. You respond: “Thanks be to God.”
+ Perform your penance as soon as possible.

RE:
The Steps of Confessing in the Catholic Church?
I'm doing a project on confessing and I myself am not Catholic I just go to a Catholic school. We got this hand out on confessing but it's slightly confusing and I can't tell the order in which it goes. So any steps you can tell me about why confession is good and the steps to doing it...

Enter the Confessional Box.
Say: Father, forgive me , for I have sinned: it is (name the timespan) since my last confession.
Father: God forgive You, My Child, what sins have you to confess?
At this point, confess your sins:
E.G. I looked at a girl/boy and found him/her attractive... I swore at my mother/father/both...
I declared someone who used to be my friend my enemy, and brooded on the way I should cast him/her down... Is it the fire in Hell, or will it be just the custard pie in the face they get??
Now, says the Priest, that is a terrible sin, and for it you shall do penance.
Now, say Our Father and Hail Mary and the Apostles' Creed, and please when you come to the Confessional next time, be in a State of Grace.

firstly you have remource in your heart for the sin committed. that remorse brings you to sorrow for having offended
God. And the fear of hell. you go to church pray for humilty to confess well, then wait your turn go in kneel down and begin bless me father, for I have sinned, it has been 2 weeks since my last confession, these are my sins (name them all and the times you did them) pray your act of contrition or do it before you go in the confessional, do the penance the priest gives you and dont repeat the sin, but if you do, you'll have to repeat this process.

Ask God for light to see and sincerely repent of any sins you have commited since your last good confession
Then examine your conscience using the commandments or other guides to help you identiy any sins that you have done
Then ask God for pardon and resolve never to do them agin because all sin displeases God who is our good and most loving Father,
Then you go to the priest
say your sins sincerely knowing that it is Jesus who listens and forgives in or behind the priest,
listen to his advice and do the pennance he gives you
Thats it!!

MY CHURCH IS NOT REALLY FORMAL, BUT ALL WE DO IS ASK THE FATHER IF WE CAN CONFESS, SAY THE PRAYER AND TELL HIM WHATS GOING ON. I END UP TALKING TO HIM ABOUT EVERYTHING LIKE HE IS DR. PHIL, AND HE SAYS SOME THINGS TO ME WITH A DIFFERENT ASPECT. I FORGET THE PRAYER I USUALLY ONLY CONFESS ONCE A YEAR. I CONVERTED 3 YEARS AGO.

Who can forgive sins but God alone? - Mark 2:7
Romans 14:11
for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
Confess to God, not a priest
