No you can't volunteer.

If you are selected at random from the electoral register you can't refuse either. Certain people are exempt (e.g.because of age, or because of their jobs, such as police officers or solicitors). You can ask to have your jury service postponed, but you need a really good reason for this otherwise there is no chance of the court agreeing.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to do jury service, at best it is boring. If you are unlucky (like me) you will end up with a horrible case that is very upsetting. I NEVER want to get selected again!

To even be considered for jury service you have to be a registered voter as the jury service list is compiled from the electoral roll.

If you are summoned to jury service, you may still not sit on a trial as the court will draw on more jurors than it requires and it is a lottery at court if you get picked!

In answer to your question - No, you cannot elect yourself as a volunteer onto jury service

As soon as you are on the electoral roll you can be called for jury service ( when over 18 and under 65). I have been called twice. It's extremely boring.

No. If you're on the electoral register, you get summonsed (whether you want to do it or not). The chances are that between the ages of 18 and 75 you'll get summonsed twice.
