Used to be you could get basic television channels with an antenna, now you have to purchase cable just to get the basic free channels. Why is this?

(This answer assumes you are located in the US)

Where did you get the idea that there isn't free TV that you can get with an antenna?

I watch TV with a pair of rabbit ear antennas every day. And the federal government thinks there are almost 20 million households the only receive TV with an antenna.

Now it may be that you are in a location where you can't get TV signals. Maybe not. Where you located?

This is because the Federal government has mandated that by Feb. of 2008 all "Over the Air" analog TV signals will no longer be available.

Because nothing is free anymore and believe it really sucks, i can't afford cable, so i will be watching my collection of movies over and over.............W.O.W. i wish i could afford cable TV..........I think it is a bunch of b.s. i thought the basic channels were always free, but not more!!!!

within the next year they're giving out coupons to help people by digital receivers for their tvs

Edit: I watch tv on -- i don't even own a tv any more
