I bought this lens today, gave $20 for it just cause it was so cool... I would like to resell it, but have no idea what it is worth...I have no expertise in this area, and would really appreciate anyone's help to identify it... On the ring at the opening, that holds the clear glass in place over the first lense, it says "Asahi Pentax 58 MM skylight"...under the clear glass at the front, it says " f= 90MM-230MM... 58 with circle with line through it, looks like symbol for degree, then NO. 17134268, then the word SOLIGAR....then AUTO-ZOOM, with the last marking being 1:4.5... The lense came in a padded bag, and aside from a small flat spot in the end ring ( not the body ) that holds the protective glass in, it looks to be in perfect shape. It is obvious that it has been well taken care of...I would appreciate any information someone whithexpertise would be willing to share...Thanks !!!!

It's a manual focus 90-230mm f/4.5 lens. Looks to be a Pentax-brand skylight filter for a 58mm front thread (confirmed by the other 58 with the split circle).

Brand is Soligor. Probably worth a maximum of $90, depending upon mount.

The only way to determine the mount is to actually have someone look at it. Take it to the local camera store or post a link to a photo of the rear mount of the lens.

Here's a link to an eBay sale:

It's a Soligor 90-230 f4.5 zoom.

The filter on the end is a Pentax 58mm. It's removable.

The zero with the line thru it is the filter size.

Look on the lens or the lens mount to see if there's an indication which camera it fits (possibly P or N or C). Otherwise take it to a camera store -- they'll know.

Soligor was a third-party lens brand from the 60's into the 80's. They were not known for their high-quality optics and were mostly sold on price.

It's probably not worth more than you paid for it.

Hope this helps.

Asahi Pentax 58mm Skylight, is simply a 48mm skylight filter fitted to the front of the lens, Users generally have these to protect the expensive lenses from being accidentally sctatched.

58 with the circle and line through indicates the size of the lens fitting for filters etc, that is why the skylight filter is also 58mm.

90-230 indicates that the lens is a tele-photo zoom lens which varies between 90 and 230, a normal 35mm SLR lens would be 50.

Soligar is the brand name.

To be able to sell this, you would need to indentify which type of fitting it was, Pentax, Olympus, Cannon etc, they are all different.

The market for 35mm slr cameras and lens is very small at the moment, as most people have switched to digital.

I think you paid about what it's worth. It doesn't say what it's for, that info is probably on the back, the mount. Soligar is the manufacturer and 1:4.5 is the maximum aperture, not very fast. The 90-230 means it's a moderate telephoto. But you have to find out what it's for; P=Pentax, C=Canon, M=Minolta, like that.
