Do you believe that a rainbow did not exist before a worldwide flood?

Essentially, the rainbow flag denotes diversity, You can't make a rainbow (or white light for that matter) by insisting that only one frequency of light is acceptable. It takes a diversity of colors. Likewise, a vibrant society is make up by a rainbow of different philosophies, religions, and ways of living.

To thrive in a changing environment, a species needs genetic diversity to give it flexibility. Likewise, a society needs the flexibility that comes with diversity.

The rainbow flag is not used exclusively by the LGBT community, they just tend to be the most visible.

It's been part of the gay community since the late 1970s. I don't think you're going to change that any time soon. You'll find though that most "gay" rainbows are distinctive - stickers, flags, patches. For everyone else, if you want to have an air freshner rainbow - you won't be mistaken for being gay or lesbian.

The rainbow was chosen as symbolizing all the colors of man in our community: black, white, hispanic, Asian, etc. Male or female. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transsexual, all ages.

No.

You are a fool.

You cannot claim natural wonders.

Besides, wasn't the rainbow supposed to symbolize the promise that god would never flood the earth again? I suppose god doesn't consider south-eastern United States or south-east Asia a part of the earth, huh?

Oh, some of you people are pathetic. Just because you wear rainbow coloured clothing doesn't mean you're gay. Have a little self confidence. Who cares what people think of you, anyway. Sheesh!

Speaking as a lesbian, I don't mind what anyone calls the rainbow as long as it isn't a hate symbol.

Rainbows are a free natural phenomenon. They were there before Christianity and will be there after.

I wonder if pagans and wiccans mind the USA using five sided stars on their bomb-carrying planes?

I also wonder if you have with any other institution using the 'rainbow' as a symbol?

(personally I don't like 'banners', but I respect those that do if it is peaceful)

UPDATE: I think it hilarious that someone getting thumbs down cries "aren't I allowed to have an opinion any more?"

Answer: Yes you are 'allowed', but your opinion proved unpopular. Just like the gay flag is unpopular with your crowd.

Appraisal isn't censorship dear. Get used to free speech. It isn't in place just so you can spout anti-gay hatred, it's there for people that disagree with you too.

..........alright first of all
That should not offend you that rainbow symbol is also gay's and lesbians.
I'm a christian
and I don't mind. Your question shows me that you don't like gays and lesbians. If you truly are a christian, you're supposed to love everybody. Hipocritical christians are the ones that convince other people that christians are "close-minded" "intolerant"
God wants us to love everyone including homosexuals. Jesus wouldn't be sick of people representing the rainbow as gay and lesbians symbol and neither should you.
The bible is also written by people meaning their views during their time might have affected the way they write it. the "condemn" the homosexuals part might also have been refered only towards the people that molest children (such as the priests who molested little boys). but that's not for me to judge. What i know 100% is is that we are supposed to love everyone.

In Israel a rainbow is called "Keshet" and it represents an organization here in the U.S. and Israel (I'm not sure about other countries) where they help educate children with disabilities.

I remember I did their summercamp program as a counselor for 2 years and at the end they gave us this pin for our jacket, and it was a rainbow. LOL I thought that some people wouldn't understand. :)

So do you have a problem with Jackson's Rainbow Coalition as well? Or:
the Incan cultural flag?
the International Co-operative Alliance?
the Italian Peace Movement?
the flag of Cusco, Peru?
Rainbow Brite cartoons?

Just chill.

I just don't like the fact that now anyone who wears rainbow colors is thought to be homosexual. Now as for your stance on it I can see where your coming from, but the rainbow isn't just limited to your viewpoint

I'm agnostic...so the relation to God is irrelevant to the fact that I HATE IT! Rainbows are pretty and fun and now I really don't feel comfortable using them for anything, as I am NOT gay. Wish they could have come up with a unique symbol... one that didn't involve something that children draw in grade school.

EDIT: Has nothing to do with self confidence...just dislike the repeated disclaimer I have to utter over and over. As to the other groups that have utilized the rainbow as a symbol... doesn't bother me at all. Now if the Nazis had used it, that would have bothered me considerably more...

Frau Hunter- Gay and lesbian, etc. are not colors.

Big deep breaths and Maalox should help that sick feeling.
According to your beliefs YOUR god, having just slaughtered every man, woman and child (born and unborn) gave the rainbow as a reminder that he won't use water the next time he slaughters humanity. Sounds like your rainbow is a symbol of anger and genocide!
There is always the pink triangle that Hitler forced us to wear in his death camps. Perhaps you'd prefer that we would still be required to wear them in YOUR death camps?
Get over yourself and your bigotry lady!
