...I couldn't disagree more with that myth. I always have found the majority of NYers to be helpful, friendly, and proud of their city.

Are they rushed? They have to be, they're a busy people.

Are they cautious? They have to be, we're not talking about Oz here.

Are they open-minded? Well, in a city that attracts people from 170 different nations, why wouldn't you be?

Do they help their fellow human beings in times of dyer need? NYers seem to be among the first to do so. Remember 9-11?

I believed the whole "New York rude" myth UNTIL I visited. Now, I want to thank NYers for your gift to the world: Your great city! There are nice and mean folks everywhere. I live in Kentucky: jerks and snobs a-plenty here!

Thanks for the good compliment, New Yorker are very nice people. As a native of this city (and anyone will agree with me) we been having this bump rap since the days when New York was down on its luck (i.e.: the world famous NY Daily News front page that says "Ford to City: Drop Dead"). However, since 9/11 we have gotten good complements from tourist about how nice the people of NYC are.

Yes, we still rush (hey we're busy people), but when someone is in desperate need of help this city of 8.5 million people, 40% of the population is foreign born, will join together and help one another.

So the myth that New Yorkers are rude, is just that a myth.

You ARE da man! :)

I'm glad that you've visited our city and saw for yourself what we're all about (as I am sure the other native posters here feel as well! :) )

There may be moments where you see people here hat may have had "bad days" and that gets lumped into the rest of us as "rude". Yeah, things might go at a much faster pace here and we do have to have our "street smarts" on us because of certain areas we may have to be wary of.....but if anyone was in trouble, we would be MORE than grateful to help.

I can't speak for everyone but if a pregnant woman needed a seat on the subway, most of us would be glad to give ours up. If someone was lost, we'd help steer them in the right direction. If someone needed help in an emergency (sick. hurt)...some would call up a cop while others would stay with a person while help did arrive. Our niceness is our "secret" lol. And for those that feel we are rude...do what you did and come visit NYC and see it for yourselves.

Thank you for the compliment! And please come back when you can!

BTW, I have a co-worker from Kentucky. Real nice guy too!

I'm a native of NYC and sometimes I do find some people really rude but if you look on the bright side, there will always be some really good people. I guess some people are just unlucky and bump into the wrong people. Not everyone is rude here so don't believe the movies and stuff.

I always got a very poor bad impresion of people from NY watching tv and movies etc.

But when I first visited there I was in Love with New York and it's people. I have had lots of trips there since and made a few friends there too....In fact im already planing my return visit.

Don't beleave the movies and tv shows, its a great safe place..In fact I felt safer there then some of the place I go in my own country.

Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Not to many people think the way you do. A lot of people go by hearsay which irks the hell out of me.

So, as a native NYer, I would like to thank you for your words.

LOL... judging NY only by a visit is pretty silly. Just wait til YOU have to find a place to live and make a living there.
Ok, maybe millions of people have better luck than I do.
