No. If the school had noticed the kids were hurt then they would be right to report the Mom....kids are to cherish not to batter.

No, the school would not be wrong. They have an obligation to stop the bullying and protect the kids if they are on the school grounds. If someone was beating a kid on school grounds then the teachers and principal will have to get involved to stop the beating or fight, because it is on SCHOOL Grounds. There is usually Zero Tolerance for bullying and fighting in schools.
The mom was way out of line. She should have asked what happened and how it happened, and why it happened. Sounds like the mom needs some kind of anger management or something is going on in the family dynamic that is causing all this...

Depends on what you mean by beating. One smack on the butt (or with a switch) or cheek, yes, the school is wrong. Punching, kicking, leaving bruises, the school is right.
Okay, let me clarify, if the mom comes back cussing, then she's probably being abusive. A decent spanking parent would take their kid out to the car, or gave them a spanking when they got home. And the kid would know better than to do whatever they did next time.
Face it, people, there are times when 5 minute time outs don't work, and taking away their computer won't work. Think about what people did in pioneer days when cell phones, motorbikes, etc weren't even thought of. What did they do to make their kids mind? You got it...a spanking. And those kids respected their parents as well as other adults. I can prove to you which kids get spanked when needed and which don't. The spanked kids are usually well behaved when mom and dad aren't around. The unspanked ones are spoiled brats when mom and dad aren't looking. Why, you ask? Simple. The spanked kids know there will be undesirable consequences if they are anything BUT well behaved. The unspanked kids know the only thing that will happen to them is a five minute time out no matter HOW bratty they are.
I also have yet to see an Amish, Mennonite, or Hutterite child throwing a tantrum at a store, and yes, they do go to regular stores. Why you ask? Because those kids know to behave, because they learned early on that there's a spanking waiting for them if they don't. Remember, none of these kids have TVs, cell phone, computers, a whole lot of toys, and so on to be taken away.

The thing that is wrong is the mom beating the kids. Yes, the school is right to get involved. If anyone outside the family has a remote suspicion that a child is being abused, then authorities need to be called. It's the law.

NO! It's the school's job to keep it's students safe, even out of school. All schools must report such things by law for the best interest of the child. Not to mention, such problems at home lead to a hindering education and learning disabilities. So, if the child has to constantly worry about whats going to happen at home, he/she will not do as well in school as they possibly could. If you're having a problem, I'm very sorry, and you should definitely seek help. School is the best place for that. If you're a parent beating your child, then you should seek help as well, because no child deserves such a parent.

No. The school has obligations to protect the children.
Just as any other person who sees what is going on...
If I saw someone just smack the bottom of a child I would not do anything. But if they are beating on the child I would step in and say something or I would call the authority...

Someone needs to protect children. Unfortunately sometimes it is from the child/ren's own parent/s. It is actually against the law to know of a child/ren being abused and not to turn the parent/s in. I for one think a parent should experience the same pain they have inflected on their child/ren. I do not see anything wrong with a swat on the bottom, but using a belt or paddle and inflecting bruises and cuts is abuse.

Schools, teachers, adminisrators, are all mandated reporters of abuse with children if they see or a child tells them or a child has visiable marks on them. They are liable if they see and know and do not report. I dont know where the above poster gets the idea that parents cant physically dicipline their kids in the US, because we still can unlike Ireland and other countries.

A) depends on what your calling beating. Spanking is one thing. bruses is a completely different category.
B) NO! The schools job is to protect the student. If the student tells someone at the school that they are being abuse it's illegal for the school no to turn it in.

If the school knows for a fact that a mother is beating her children, they legally have to turn her in. It's also the right thing to do and any school would be irresponsible if they didn't turn her in.
