Hello,
I just moved out of state and would like to send for my dog what would be the best airline. Here are some questions:

1. My dog is about 35-40 lbs.
2. Shes old so traveling may be hard on her.
3. Shes shy if thats possible
4. about how much would it cost?
5. Is it Safe?

Be careful.
I have heard a few horror stories of people traveling with pets on airlines. One in particular they left the black long haired dog on the tarmac most of the day and forgot to put it on its flight. I know now there are some check systems if you are flying with your dog, but I don't know the process if your dog is flying on its own. I believe if you are flying with your dog it is like $200. I don't know how far you moved but I would seriously consider how much of a hardship it would be to go get her and drive her back with you or find a friend who is coming to visits, it will be less stressful for both of you.

Continental Airlines is the only commercial airline that I know of that has a progam spicifically designed for transporting pets.
They have climate controlled everything, vets on site and their very own holding facility (not the cargo area).
Here is a link so that you can contact them and see if they can help you. For an elderly dog this is the only air travel that I would put my personal reccomendation on.
Good Luck to you.

I have also used Delta Dash and others and have never had a bad experience with any of them. I just stand behind this particular one in this particular situation because of your dogs advancing years and special needs.

it is safe. how far would you want her to fly then because a long flight might have a lot of stress on her. you can give her a sleeping pill though to calm her down. i had my dog sent over from holland to greece and shes just fine. i even had my rabbit sent the same distance and hes fine too.

the fact that your dog i s shy doesnt make much of a difference but it would mean that wouldnt bark alot when in the plane.

im not sure how much it costs to send a dog over to a different state/country so youll have to phone a few air lines to ask. to send my rabbit over though was 200 euros and my rabbit weights 1.5 kilos...

hope this helps

It's been years since I shipped a dog, but I used USAir and Delta dash.....and thankfully never had any trouble with either one. Shipped one to Australia, and was most impressed with Quantis/USAir, and the lengths they went to care for the dog and make sure she made her transfers and arrived safely. Just how far is it she's going to have to go? Any chance of friends or family road tripping and bringing her along? It would be possibly easier on her, she would be with familiar people at all times. Unless of course she doesn't car travel well....in that case a long road trip probably wouldn't impress her.

I would never ever put another animal on an airline . the first time I did my mom and I had two dogs ,she had a husky and I a cairn terrier . we had them in seperate carriers at the time we left them . When the two of them got to where we were they were together one dog ,my dog was covered in the other dog s puke and my dog was covered in feces . My mothers dog developed a cough and 3 wks later after much testing with my vet he narrowed it down that both dogs had been exposed to jet fuel and that is why they had become sick . Subsequently we had to put both dogs down as they both developed pneumonia and several bacterial infections . My mom and I are still in legal battle with the airlines , Please dont do that to your dog . good luck and god bless.

If I were going to send for my dogs, I would use them.
