The contradictions in the bible are obvious. It's as if there are two gods. The Loving and forgiving God. And the jealous and vengeful Lord. Christians seem to go one of two ways. Either toward Love and forgiveness, or jealousy and hatred. Was it written this way, by God, so that people would make their own choice between good and evil?

I have asked a similar question and wonder if scriptures have been influenced by both benevolent and malevolent forces. The Bible does tell of how God has allowed Satan to test man at times. Wouldn't this be the ultimate test?

It was not written by God. Men inspired by God wrote it.

I do not believe it is a test. I have found many answers in The Bible.

I go towards the love and forgiveness.

I believe that the Old Testament, written before Jesus came, speaks more of the jealous and vengeful God.
The New Testament is more about the love of Jesus.

What a good question you asked at the end! I look forward to seeing the answers.

Here is a star for you.

The Bible wasn't written by God, it was written by human beings. And the presentation varies because different parts are from different cultures.

Are you saying that God has to flat in character and fit into a box humans can comprehend?

God revealed Himself to people. He is who He is.

God is Holy, Righteous, Merciful, Love. These attributes are not mutally exclusive.

It is like watching my father and how he interacts with different people. He once told me, "If a person acts like a child, then I treat them like one. If they act like an adult, then I treat them like one".

Observing how he interacts with people, you would think he was contradictory and two different people. It was him. It is the depth of his character.

God also had depth. He gets jealous, angry, and vengeful against His enemies. He is the one who evens the score. He even tells us in the New Testament that it is His job.

God has never changed.
