The answers are all over the ballpark, some say
self esteem is not involved at all, while others say
that it does relate to tattooes. I am confused, and
still waiting for a definitive answer.

Men and women get tattoos for all sorts of different reasons. Some get them to remember their loved ones that have passed on, some for fighting the great fight and beating Cancer, some because they love the sensation and still others just because they love art and want to show something they may have drawn or even a classical piece they adore. Just because they may have a tattoo doesn't mean they may have low self esteem, I don't see it as an esteem issue. I have 3 large ones myself.

That they are confident enough to alter their appearance without worrying about what other people will think. Actually it says more about a person's self esteem, when they want a tattoo but don't get one because they are worried about what other people will think of their self esteem.

i don't think tattoos have anything to do with self esteem, atleast not for me. i have always had GREAT self esteem and having tattoos has not altered it at all. all different types of people get tattooed and not for all of the same reasons.

I've never had high self esteem, but since getting tattoos it's gotten higher.

Mines soared. I love every single one I have. There are bad tattoos out there, and people label tattooed people as trash and dumb because of that. Fact is 90% of people have good tattoos that mean alot to them. So in the end, who the f*ck is everyone else to judge? Those who judge are the dumb small minded ones. A good tattoo will give you confidence, you have the balls to express yourself without caring what other people think.

it doesn't say they have low self esteem...because people USUALLY get them for specific reasons. to remind them of someone, or something. some people get sleeves of them on their arms with all things pertaining to their life over the years. it's good to have someone ask you, well what does that one mean? in reply, you enjoy answering them knowing you got it for a good reason. it says they have good self esteem and that they like to do things with their body and don't care what others have to say. it's not their body right? it's not covering up your body because you feel like crap about it, it's being creative with yourself.

It shows they have enough confidence to make a statement on their body. It's something to be admired.

Hopefully it's small enough to be covered. The large visible tatoos just cry out to me saying "I am whitetrash and have nothing better to do with my time and money than than get tortured for hours by some so called artist so I can make a statement that I'm soooo cool".
That is only my opinion though.
