You can't.
Downloading music for free is illegal. If you get caught by the RIAA, you're in some serious trouble.

Sorry, but it is illegal to download music from Limewire unless you purchase the music.
I recently read an Online news article discussing how the music industry is going after people who use services such as Limewire to download music. I read that they are prosecuting everyone they can.
The only way you can do this without getting into trouble, it either on a college campus, or if you are sharing music in your own home network which was first purchased. If you or somebody else purchases it, and then you or a friend goes to that home network and transfers the music to a device while in that home network the chances of getting caught and prosecuted are slim.
However, it is still illegal, no matter what way you do this, so please keep that in mind while you are deciding on whether you wish to do it or not. I hope you choose to not enage in stealing royalties from the artists who created the music.
*Edit* SpiralFrog may have "free" music and pays the artist by the *ads*, but that site also attempts to download spyware and adware when you download the music files, that is one way it "serves" the ads that "pays" for the music. If you want to chance malware on your system feel free to access this "free" music.

Limewire is free to download and free to use. It is not illegal because everybody uses it but the stuff on it might be illegal. If you download music and itunes (on a mac) or Windows Media Player (on windows) asks for copyright information when you try to play it, it is illegal, if it plays fine, no problems, it is legal. Just make sure that your antivirus program is turned on and is running!

Using anything to download any file that's under copyright (commercial music, movies, software and TV shows) without paying for it is illegal, unless you have permission from the copyright holder, because the creator isn't getting paid for their work. The crime is copyright infringement, and the fine is between $750.00 and $150,000.00 per file illegally downloaded.
If you want to stay out of trouble, you have to obey the law. If you choose to engage in criminal activity then you have to be prepared to pay the price.

you want it all, huh?
doesn't work like that. you get the songs for free but it's illegal and you're taking the chance that you're also downloading a virus. most limewire files are infected.

not all free music is illegal. currently there is one legal option for downloading music. its at http://www.spiralfrog.com. this site is both free and legal. this site employs the use of ads to pay the artist for their music.
