I have a blue rug in my dinning room and would like to paint the walls. There is a trim going around which makes me want to split the walls into two colors. The problem is that with a blue rug I don't realy know what colors to choose. My home decor is sort of modern with leather couches, big TV and surround sound installed around the main living room. My dinning room table is glass top with black trim and the chairs are cream colored. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

paint sherwin williams' "rice grain" below the chair rail, and "calico" above it. I tried this out on their color visualizer with various shades of blue, and I think it looks good:

What shade of blue?
Try a lighter shade of the blue of the rug for the bottom half, and a cream like the chairs for the top.
Maybe cream drapes with blue or black tiebacks? or a blue and cream, or blue and black print.
Then put up art work that repeats the colors - blues, creams, black - in paintings, photos, posters, etc. Don't forget a modern mirror if room is a bit small - maybe black or chrome framed.
