A friend of mine is going to US this week, as it is cheaper to buy a PS3 over there I need to know if it will work back here in Europe. I think games will but Blu-Ray won't, any advice??

i think for older consoles, there was some sort of "area code" on the games (as DVDs have them) a mod chip could help but i don't know if they exist for the PS3 yet or if they are even needed.

Apart from that, the plug outlets are different in Europe than in the US. Most electronics come with their own adapters that should say something along the lines of "Input 110V - 220V". if the PS3 has one of those (usually a big block on the power cord) then you only need an adapter for the shape of the plug (cheap)

PS3 games are region free but PS1 and PS2 games, DVDs and blu-ray movies are still region locked so you won't be able to play those if they're bought in Europe. You may also have to get some type of power adapter but apart from that it should work fine. If you just want it for PS3 games then get it, if you want to play blu-ray movies etc. bought in Europe you have to get a PS3 in Europe.

I have US PS3 in Europe. European (PAL) movies and PS1/2 games can't be played. PS3 are region free. Good thing, that US 60GB is very good with PS2 games (if you know where to buy US games). 80GB isn't made for PAL regions at all. You'll need a good power converter (500W) and you won't have an official warranty. Online is OK.

All games work everywhere
Most Blu Ray movies work everywhere
But PS3s from US play all PS2games without glitches and they are also cheaper
