Questions... Is it wood or carpet & what color?

\What to Do First When Decorating:

You are in a luck. This website will give you guidances step by step. I find that helpful.http://interiordec.about.com/od/interiorpainting/a/diy_choosepaint.htm

How to Choose a Color Scheme

1. Think first about practical aspects of the room such as

* Function: How is the room used? Warm colors work well for active rooms, cool colors for relaxation areas.
* People: Who will use the room? Consider their color preferences when selecting your color scheme.
* Location: What is the exposure to sunlight? Northern and eastern exposures benefit from warm color schemes; western and southern exposures from cool schemes.
* Size: Do you want to increase or decrease the apparent size? Warm colors advance, making the room seem smaller; cool colors recede, making the room appear larger.

2. Choose a print you love. This will be your "signature print" that will set the color scheme for the room. Signature prints usually contain several colors and large scale pattern that is suitable for window treatments, bedcoverings, wallcoverings, and upholstery.

3. Let one color from your signature print dominate. Use this color in as much as 2/3 of the available area.

4. Pull 2-3 other colors from your signature print to act as support or accent colors. Use them in smaller areas and in accessories.

5.Carry your color scheme throughout the entire house to create a strong visual continuity. Varying the dominant color and patterns you use in each room --while remaining faithful to your basic color scheme -- will keep your home interesting, yet unified.

Tips:

1. Repeat colors evenly throughout the room, and in at least 3 places.
2. Adding dressmaker details in cording and trims is one way to disperse color and add interest.
3. Divide color use to approximately 60% of the room in the background (lightest) color, 30% in the mid-tone color, and 10% in the brightest, accent colors.

1] do the whole room in one color.
2] if light wood furniture, use:
rose
light orange
lemon
grass or jade green
turquoise or carolina blue
violet
3] if dark furniture, try a lighter shade:
ivory
pink
peach or coral
banana or light lemon
sage or mint green
aqua or powder blue
lavender
4] curtains should match the bedding, or a color in the bedding, the walls, or be neutral [ like ivory lace or sheers ]
4] add some brass - in lamps, candle holders, framed pics or mirrors, etc. Perhaps a headboard or a night table?
5] add some of the brown and beige - in a vase, lampshade, ornaments, etc. Maybe leather or stone or wood?
6] add a live plant

Beautiful comforter. I would paint the whole room "dockside blue" by sherwin williams.
