The clavicle in a dog, when it is present, is vestigal. Tiny, unattached, non-functional. You're using the wrong term (or your vet is, which makes me doubt their professional opinion on this). My dog shattered his elbow (both sides of the joint, both the humerus and the ulna) at around 12 weeks of age. The break ran through a growth plate in two places. The first surgeon they sent the x-rays to said he wouldn't even try to fix it. My general vet, who had a special interest in orthopedics and really thought it could be fixed, took the x-rays to a second surgeon, who said he'd give the repair a shot, he thought he could piece it back together. Worst case scenario, they would possibly need to amputate in a few months if the repair wasn't successful, and he'd do so for free if the repair failed and it became necessary. My dog is now about six years old. No arthritis, no functional problems with the joint. Aside from the small extra lumps in the joint where the screw heads are, you wouldn't know he had ever broke it. Get a second opinion (or two) and then make your decision. Arthritis isn't a given with an injury in a joint, and neither is nerve damage. He will do okay with a leg amputated, but front limbs carry most of the weight, and arthritis might develop prematurely in the other front limb if you do amputate (according to my vet, anyway). There are benefits to saving the leg, if the surgeon thinks they can get a good outcome. Add: My dog has two screws, two pins, and a piece of wire in his little elbow (he's a min pin). They left all the hardware in since it hasn't caused any problems. His break did run through the joint surface in more than one place, and on both sides of the joint. No arthritis, no pain, and full range of motion almost six years out, they just checked it last month at his annual exam. A good surgeon might be able to do better than your vet thinks they can, definitely talk to at least one surgeon before deciding to amputate if you have the budget to try the repair.

First and formost, the dog needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. Until then, I'd try to immobilize the leg to prevent further damage. A splint perhaps, and a small crate or even a cardboard box to discourage movement. Then, after the dog comes home from the vet, PLEASE keep it confined and safe, either in a fenced in yard or on leash or in a kennel run so that this does not happen again. I mean, worst case....it could be it's head next time that gets run over.

Call a neighbor to get a ride to your regular vet. You need to call your vet first so they know to come in since this is Sunday. Call your mom and let her know what happened and which neighbor is taking you all there. Get the neighbor to give her verbal permission to ok medical treatment for your dog, or get a number where your mom can be reached so the vet can get the ok on treatment.
It is not ok to wait until she gets home, hon. The dog can go into shock due to pain and that would not be a very good thing. Please get off the computer and call your neighbor and then your parent and get that pup to a vet! Go!go!go!

Get it to a vet NOW ask a neighbour to take you,the dog will probably be in shock as well as in pain,it needs urgent treatment. While you are there ask if the vet can find it home that will be able to look after it properly ,i cannot believe anyone would be so damned callous as to leave a puppy that has been run over with a kid and piss off to work sorry babe but ure mam needs her *** kicked.

You need to get your dog to the vet immediately. Also you need to make sure that in the future that your dog is not let outside unattended or you will have a repeat of this or worse in the future.

Would you want to go to the hospital if your arm/leg were broken? What makes you think that waiting is any better for it?

add: Call around to friends/family for a ride. You can also try calling the non-emergency number for the police department. Bigger communities have a special department called community service officers. They are usually very willing to help with situations like this.

don't waste time! go take him/her to the vet!! Ask your mom to come home and give you a ride to the vet ASAP! its cruel to sit and wonder what to do when your puppy's leg is broken! how would you feel if someone ran over your leg and your mom waited and waited to get you some help??

Call you mom or call the emergency vet in you local phone book and ask them what you should do. For now just make sure the pup does move very much. Keep him in a confined area.

yes it needs to go now. At least an E-vet will immobilize it and give it pain killers until you see your normal vet..tomorrow. Would you want to sit around with a broken leg????
