I just need an estimate. I would like to max for my first time next time I work out. I would like a basis on how much weight I should try and what to expect. thanks

150 should be easy. Try it first. Then 170, 185, then 200.
I would think you could do 200. Warm up first and have a good spotter who can take it off your neck if you can't lift it.

How long do you wait between sets? Thats important. It's probably around 180 or 200. When you find your max, take off 10 pounds and do 3 sets of 2 reps each and that will build strength. Of course, you have a spotter with free weights.

If you slowly work up in 10-15 lb. increments at about 3-5 reps.
Your max. should be near 190+ lbs.
Each carefully increased set with enough rest will allow muscles to lift even more than possible than by just jumping in to attempt a single max.

At your age, you shouldn't be doing any dude. To build muscle you need testosterone, which you are not even old enough to have in your body yet. If you keep benchpressing at your age, you're going to have 'pec-boobs' by the time you're 18. It's not pretty. Try push up variations. I don't see why you need to build up your torso at the age of 14, man. Also the thing about doing reps of 8 to 10 is that you're aiming for size. Doing reps of around 12 to 15 makes muscles lean. Also, building muscles at 14 will affect your flexibility. At your age, you should be able to touch your elbows.

maxing for the 1RM is just as much mental as it is physical. this is one of many reasons why many never really increase the 1RM much as compared to where they started.
