Pro: you see a lot of places, mostly a great deal of blue stuff
Cons: sea-sickness and being away from your loved ones for months at a time.

I don't know what planet Carly is on - submariners breathing pure oxygen? They breathe the same stuff as we do and on modern submarines the build up of CO2 is removed so they can stay down much longer than the old diesel patrol boats they had in the war.

I spent 9 years in "The Andrew" as the Royal Navy is affectionately known and it was the best time of my life. Training was quite tough but once you went to a ship of the fleet things got much better. Long hours working through the day and then keeping watches at night - sometimes in freezing cold up in the Arctic Circle. The rewards far outweighed the hardships - going all over the world and visiting places that would cost a fortune to get to if you did it as a holiday. The friendships and comeraderie stay with you for life and I would recommend the life to any young person wanting adventure. If you have any specific questions I can help you with then please email me.

My cousin was in the Navy. He spent most of his time on a nuclear sub, so he really didn't know where in the world he was. A sub is run extremely efficiently... it has to be. They breathe pure oxygen, and so "subbers" often have headaches for a few days when on land again. The dining area is very small on a sub, so only 5 or 6 men eat at a time. If you miss your time, you don't eat. The food is very good so most sailors don't miss. Sleeping quarters are tight.. very little room for anything personal. I don't remember what his job was on that sub, but he worked with computers that measure depth/distance. And he really liked it a lot.

I am sure the Navy has large enough WOK's to serve large amounts of stir-fry!
