Recently I've become very self conscious about my weight/appearance. In a usual day I eat an english muffin for breakfast, 2 pieces of fruit and a water bottle for lunch, a healthy snack like a Kashi bar in the afternoon, and pasta or large salad for dinner. Is this too little to eat? I count calories occasionally, and the usual amount I eat in a day is about 900. If this is too little, is it possible for there to be any negative outcomes from eating too little, like weight gain or bloating?

Also, if this is too little food, what are possible suggestions to eating more and maintaining a very healthy diet as well as not gaining weight?

Thx so much.

Get at least 1200 calories a day. If you don't your body's metabolism slows down thinking that it is going to starve. So you defeat your purpose and it is harder to lose wiehgt. Eat whole grains and vegetables also.

900 calories a day is considered starvation. So, yeah, it is probably too little.

My suggestion would be to add a little oil to whatever you cook. I can't eat too much in one day, so I add little things to make sure I am keeping my fat and sugars up.

Do you put anything on your English muffins? Maybe you should add some peanut butter to it.

It is hard to just eat more, this I know, especially if you have been doing things a certain way for some time. So, you just have to make little adjustments.

There are a couple negative outcomes, for instance, if this is just temporary, once you go back to eating over 900 calories, you will gain all of the weight back instantly. You are probably losing water weight, now, especially if you are not exercising too much. Another bad outcome would be an eating disorder, they are very easy to develop. Counting calories is sometimes used negatively -- you want to eat less and less every day because the number is right in front of your eyes.

Losing weight too quickly also means that your skin won't have enough time to adjust to its new body, so stretch marks will show.

It really is simple, not gaining weight -- I am on no sort of diet, though I do eat less than most, but I walk to work every day and since I started doing that, I haven't gained weight in a very long time. I actually lost quite a bit just by doing that.

i would say anything under 1200 calories for most people is too low -- by restricting calories too much, your body goes into a semi-starvation mode and will decrease your metabolism, causing you to eventually burn less calories just by doing normal activities.

looks like you are missing some lean proteins in your diet. I would suggest putting a T of PB on your english muffin, instead of 2 pieces of fruit, add in a veggie, whole grain, and protein, and add some protein to your dinner. sorry i can;t be more specific, but i don't know much about you.

maybe you should consult a registered Dietitian in your area who can set up a plan for you

No I dont think of so, Ihave 3 childrens, and the physician tells me all the time how is amazingly important, to maintain a healthful stability weight loss plan for the toddlers they're growing to be up and we dont prefer them to be diabetics, or different wellbeing problems so youthful through fact we supply them junk foodstuff the different day, is like permitting them to consume candy the different day.

that is a horrible diet. it's low in protein, low GI high fiber carbs like oats, beans, etc. there are also no vegetables or healthy fats. it's low in calories and nutrients. following that diet for an extended period of time would surely cause a decrease in the health status.
