I live in France and when I first came I did a course called CNED, it really helped me alot, it's about €100 but it's very good.
oh and actually Deborah M, some people like to learn another language, not everyone is narrow minded.

Try www.livemocha.com, it's great and all free. You can take courses, do exercises, have natives correct your assignments, chat with others (learners or native speakers of the language you are interested in).
The are currently offering just English, French, Spanish, German, Hindi and Mandarin but they plan to expand.

DON'T go on BYKI, it is crap, and i mean really, really bad. some of the prenunciation is wrong, the spelling is occasionally wrong, and it doesn't teach you the language, like grammar or forming senteces, you just get a list of vocab. try the e-mail course of about.com, i am on that and it is really good, because it teaches you spelling, prenunciation and grammar, and it sends you about two e-mails a week, so you can work at your own pace
