our life is like an equation where we've some unchoosen and choosen parameters. the final solution for the equation determines our destiny
i didn't choose my parents, my physical abilities, etc.... these are the unchoosen parameters.

,BUT ...

i do choose other parameters that have the heaviest weight in the equation

Allah gave us th eability to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, as well as taking descisions in our life. In addition, he told us how to deal with these parameters (choosen & unchoosen) to get the correct solution (going to heaven) and avoiding the wrong solution (going to hell).

this means i've the ability to utilize the unchoosen parameters to achieve the correct answer.

,SO

my answer for the question is we can choose what we are.

2 Nephi 2:25, 26 "Adam fell that men might be; men are that they might have joy. The Messiah cometh in the fullness of time that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed, free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day according to the commandments which God hath given." We are born with a free will. The choice is ours. The above quote is from the Book of Mormon. God bless.

Yes. You become the result of all the little choices you make that appear to meaningless at the time you make it. For example, in taking electives in college. If you take them haphazardly, looking for the easiest course, you may get a higher GPA but you squander an opportunity to learn something fulfilling. If you take electives that offer some insight into a field that is tangential to your area of interest you will benefit in bringing new thought to your chosen field. You achieve what you decide and are judged by that. Cheers and good luck!

I think there is free will. We are free to choose. But many of times I have run into road blocks that lead me to a completely different place than I was going so what would you call that? Obviously, I only had some free will - to enjoy the ride or not. A mouse in a maze has free will to try to find the cheese but did he really have free will?

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim,

Man (Insan) was given free will.
Man (Insan) makes choices, both correct and incorrect.
Man (Insan) has been Graced by Allah (SWT) with a special tool.
This tool is called "Wisdom".
This is the tool that is given freely to man (Insan) to become an "Insan Kamil" (A True Human Being).
This is mans destiny!
This is a selfless state when man becomes a servant of Allah (SWT), and recognizes every ones hunger, thirst, and suffering as their own!

This is when a human chooses to be the best of their true self.

>Note: The "Sunmans" consciousness is ever expanding, there is a beauty that lies within!

Salaams,

Yes, our each and own choices decides not only our own future but it affects the future of others. I had to take a good look at myself, ask people what kind of person they see me as so as to learn about myself and change what needed to change. What I am decides what and how I would choose. It pays to know yourself so that the choices you make affect the future in a most positive way.

I think ,society, culture, religion, and parenting, are what produce our morals our concepts..mentalities all tied in of course with a genetic dispostion .I also feel that even though we are brought up in this brewing cup as we grow we recognize the difference in others thoughts and our own right to be objective to those thoughts traits characteristics or to embrace them as who we are...
It is up to us to do whats right morally and work on being the best possible person we can be ...I believe that ...,but my question is does everyone really have free will...?

I've got to say, sometimes choice isn't a factor. I do not think that infants choose to be miscarriages, nor do I think that people's choices affect whether they get a brain tumor or not. Some things just happen by chance.

We do not choose to become what we are, we just believe that we do because we are incapable of fully understanding how we become what we our. The human mind just isn't capable of knowing all the causal factors. The human mind also isn't very comfortable with uncertainty, especially on the big stuff, so we assume free will for a quick fix answer and peace of mind.

I think free will has been here long before any of the modern Religions and I support it now as much as i would have 4000 years ago.

We choose our fates mostly and the choices we make decide who we become. That is my opinion.
