You can place your paintball gun (no compressed air in it) in your checked luggage. You can place your air tank (valve must be OFF) in your checked luggage. TSA needs to be able to look into the air tank to ensure that it is empty. As far as the paintballs themselves, I would just buy them when you land. You can put them in your checked luggage, but place them in some sort of container that will contain the paint if they break.

Also, if you are going to lock your bag, I suggest a TSA friendly lock (Travel Sentry, or Safe Skies) that way the TSA personnel can inspect your bag and re-lock it afterwards. If you lock it with any other lock, you run the risk of that lock getting cut. Most locks can be picked in a matter of minutes, however a dial combination lock will most likely be cut.

No they wont if it is checked. If you attempt to take them on they will most certainly be confiscated. Keep the paintballs in a plastic bag since the air pressure on the aircraft may cause them to burst and im assuming you dont want paint all over your bag.

You can probably put them on your stowed luggage (which, BTW, will be scanned!), but the paintballs might burst, if unprotected. Since you can rent paintball equipment from virtually anywhere these days, I wouldn't take the risk of having your toys confiscated, not to mention being detained for questioning.

Check directly with your airline. Rules keep changing.

I'm pretty sure you can check the paintball guns if the compressed air cylinder are not attached. But check to be sure.
