How much will I have to pay upfront at the hospital without insurance for a delivery

To echo the previous answerer - check with the hospital. In general, you're going to pay for the hospital, the OB-GYN, any anesthesia, any labs done on you and/or your baby, and the pediatrician who examines your baby and then releases him or her from the hospital.

In New York, this total is roughly $8000 to $10000 for a simple uncomplicated delivery.

Check with the hospital. Here in Houston, the HOSPITAL part, for a normal birth, is about $1700 cash price. That does NOT count anesthesia or doctor services - just the hospital room and board for you and the baby, and ONE night after the baby is born.
