I just finished re-reading "Frankenstein" and it got me thinking.

We have all known parents who are narcissistic monsters, who try to force their children to be something they are not. This usually ends badly for everybody concerned. When genetically engineered “designer babies” are available, will their designers fare any better than the hapless Victor Frankenstein?

Isn't the best way to 'genetically engineer' the sort of children you want choosing a mate well?
I have children with the ancestry, religious and cultural background, and intelligence I do because my husband and I both knew what we were looking for, and found it in eachother.Because of that, we have children who not only reflect what we love and admire in eachother and each other's families, we have similar parenting ideals and goals, as well as the peace of mind that our children can be given their freedom to develop as individuals in an environment that nurtures our ethical, moral and intellectual values.

If most parents start to choose the genetic make up of their children, then I think the most obvious consequence would be a lack of variety. With everyone trying to make the perfect baby, a lot of them will choose the same traits. People wouldn't want children to be too short, or too weak or too stupid or have any genital defects. We may become almost like clones. As for the people who do not have access to this technology, they're going to fall behind in most aspects in life. They won't be as attractive for mate selection and they won't be as productive in the classroom or the workplace. Taken far enough, this kind of technology could create a great divide in society.

We'll no longer have the great creative minds of the past. Remember Einstein had a low IQ and by judgment standards taken before he started renewing the world of Physics, was dumb. Einstein was a Genius. Many are.

I would be out of work....
(I am a special-education teacher, and I think if parents would choose their children's genetic makeup then every child would have an IQ of ober 129, and nobody would have a learning disability)....
