In the unlikely event that your baby worked and had taxes withheld (I know people who's babies were used in advertising), the refund check would be in the child's name. You would cash them your capacity as the child's parent.

You can't just spend the money--you'll need to be able to show the child what you did with the money because they can sue you at 18 for mismanagement.

Are you sure your baby has to file a tax return? What income does she have?

If you're the person with income, you file a tax return with your daughter on it as a dependent. If there's a refund it will come to you.

Does your baby really have taxable income? If she does, her name would be on the return - you'd sign it as her parent, but your name wouldn't be on the refund check if there is one.

If you are just claiming her on your return, the refund check will come in your name, and that of your spouse if it's a joint return.

You baby doesn't get a tax refund. You get to claim an additional exemption for him/her on your tax return, which reduces the total tax you have to pay.
