Frankly, this is going to be very hard on your dachshunds - first they are let on the furniture, then no longer? Dachsies are very orderly, once they do something regularly, they feel they are entitled to and will be very unhappy (and stubborn)
about arbitrarily not being able to do it suddently.
Why don't you do what I did - cover all the sofas with blankets or throws? Saves wear on the furniture and even looks good. I have expensive leather (full grain, analyne dye, not the cheap stuff from Rooms Rus or whatever) and have covered the sofas since I got the new furniture - no problem with the dachsies, they do no damage (i have 5 dachshund).
There are also very nice sherpa lined pads for the back of the sofas so the dachsies can sit up there and watch over their doman - they love to do that too.
To suddenly not allow your dachshunds on your furniture is going to be traumatic for them - they will consider it unfair and you will have your hands full keeping watch on them -- and you certainly don't mean to throw them out of the house - tell yourself the furniture never gave you the kind of joy and unconditional love that your dachsies do and have that for a priority. Doesn't mean let them dig on or pee on the new furniture, just cover it and let them go about their regular routine, dachshund are all about regular routine as you know.

All previous answers are pretty good, but let's look at it from another direction. Does you mother really want patio furniture or has she merely mentioned it and you've ran with it thinking she was serious when she really wasn't. I've done that many times with my parents. It may be that she just really doesn't want it for whatever reason (financial, being stolen, who knows) and doesn't know how to say no for fear of hurting your feelings. You might want to ask her direct about it (but be very gentle, nice and non-confrontational) and see what her true feelings are and then you can proceed accordingly. Or, you can just let it go for a while and then start inquiring about it again as spring gets a little more real in terms of appropriate weather. I am making a big assumption that you live in a state like mine where temps are hovering around 35 degrees! Good luck.

You don't sweetie ... once an animal thinks he/she is allowed to do something , there will be no stopping it!
But since Dacshunds have pretty short legs, try raising your bed. I bought these things that actually lifted my bed about 6 inches higher [and it looks cools, too]. :)
Try buying some pet-friendly furniture.... I have a nice house & new furniture, too, and I have both cats and a dog .... and I bought some really pretty throws and I have them on ALL of my chairs, furniture, etc....
Then, all I have to do is toss them into the washing machine every other week or so....
:)
and buy a good vaccuum .....
Good luck!
:)

Buy some foil baking sheets and place them on the furniture. When the dogs jump up, the noise of their nails on the foil pans will startle them and they stop wanting to be on the furniture. My friend did this with regular baking sheets, but she only has a love seat and a chair, so she had enough pans to go around. I'm suggesting the foil pans in case you don't have enough regular baking sheets. Good luck!

There is a spray that you can get to put on your furniture, that will keep your pets off of it and isn't going to hurt your animals. I'm not sure the name of it but your local pet store should know what your talking about.

I agree with Smart Pants. Once you have allowed your animal on the furniture...it's a little late to change your mind. If you do manage to keep them off it while you are home...you better lock them up while you are gone because they will be up on it the second you are out the door.

When they that look in their eye - I'm about to do something bad- every dog owner knows this look....make a loud noise to get their attention then tell them no. You have to keep it consistent..and may take awhile but worked with my dogs.

You could try using spray. I think it's called keep off and they sell it at regular pet stores. I know my Dachshunds didn't like that stuff. Or, you could use a scat mat. That might be more effective.

Small mouse traps work really well. The snap type. Just be sure to use the small ones so as not to injure!!
