I'm not talking about fast food like Burger King or McD's I'm talking about things we give to our children to eat right at home. What things do we feed our children that we think are not so bad but in actuality are really unhealthy? I bet there may be things that would surprise us as to how bad they are.

How can we avoid these things?

Great question! Anything from Kraft is horrible. Did you know that Kraft is owned by a large tobacco company? Kraft foods also contain tons of garbage and additives.
Anything with high fructose corn syrup is a HUGE no - no.
Juice is sweet on its own and should not contain added sugar.
Many common breakfast foods are loaded with extra sugar and disguised as a healthy option.
Many yogurts, especially those marketed toward children, contain tons of sugar, artificial colors, and high fructose corn syrup - yuck! Many applesauce companies are also infamous for this.
If you read the back of any formula container, it says breast is best and anything else is substandard. I realize some women (though a VERY small percentage) are physically unable to breastfeed, but those who can should do everything possible to nurse their babies.
To avoid these things, go natural/organic. It really isn't that expensive, and it really makes a difference. In fact, organic can be cheaper. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, you can find plenty of organic options at half the cost of the processed junk in the chain stores. Always read labels to make sure the food doesn't have added sugar, dyes, high fructose corn syrup, or other additives. Make sure there are no growth hormones in the meat and dairy products you give your children. Buy organic, pesticide - free produce. When you get in the habit of checking everything, it really isn't too difficult.

When our children eat and eat a lot, we mother or parents feel happy because we know they will not go hungry or will not lose weight. Would you agree with that assessment? We are actually doing more harm than good in the long run. Because most of the food we give them are the kind of food that our children like and for the most part, they are processed. Just about most any food stuffs that go through the processing plants anywhere in the world are not really healthy. I am guilty of giving my children process food, can, frozen packages for convenient sake. We need to have tough love and well discipline mindset in order to tackle this issue and it certainly will not be over night. It will take time and if you have time and will to endure then it can work. Start by making a commitment to yourself that you are going to be healthy and help your children to be healthy. Try to eat natural food stuff. Fresh fruits and vegetables and if you can afford organic, please by all means do. Prepare home cook meals rather than order out, precook package food. For now this would be something to start. As you go along and you find that it is working, then add more to your list of healthy food. Ask your children to help with keeping mom and dad on a healthy food path. This might work too as they will be alert to notice you might be putting something that is not so healthy in your mouth and he "mom & dad....."

Processed treats like fruit snacks ad granola bars, even yogurt are loaded with sugar.
Instead offer the child a apple slices, cheerios, or plain yogurt w/ sliced pieces of fruit in it.
Juvenile diabetes cases have skyrocketed in recent years. Mostly due to the inactivity and fat and sugar laden diets of children.

soda pops - especially those with caffine...

too much TV

microwave meals, any of those "snackables" and things that are individually packaged...

ketchup = pure sugar.. one of the most addictive things we give kids...

battery hen eggs ( compared to fresh free range eggs - wow you would be surprised)

too much meat - (most families in developed nations - excluding Japan - give their kids WAY too much meat - the portion sizes are excessive here) I am not vegetarian BUT I do know how the growth hormones in meat are effecting kids - teenage boys developing boobs, girls getting their periods earlier than ever... its all thanks to meat!!!

using chemical sprays in our house - eg LYSOL commercial shows a mom frightened by viruses sooo she sprays everything with a CHEMICAL spray.. I cant help but think "Ok she is freaked out at a kid putting its hands in its mouth after touching something - so she sprays it with chemicals and apparently its ok for her kid to put its hand in its mouth after touching the chemicals??? at least Virus's and bacteria are something our bodies are made to fight... not chemicals..

you can easily avoid bad things... by not buying them at the store... its relatively simple really
